Default CT20 Turbo (3TGTE) - Screeching noise, then no boost!

I have been really busy for the last 2 years and the ta22 was pushed much lower on the priorities. My "every now and then" drives "about 5-10 minutes in" went badly with a screeching noise from the engine bay. My thoughts was it was just a noisy belt, however after closer inspection it wasn't a belt it was a screeching noise from the turbo.....

In dismay I parked it up and left it. I did some tests a few months back and realised that it was no longer boosting. Confirming my suspicion I parked it up and died a little inside.

I had some time on Saturday, so I pulled the ct20 off the 4t, no obvious signs of damage to the fins, but it certainly not as easy flowing as it needed to be so I am assuming the bearing is shot, lack of oil, blockage in the highpressure line or simply old oil...the car was sitting for a few months prior to the drive. Although the car warmed up, obviously the oil wasn't flowing as it should have.

So my question for all you champions is should I
    A) try and find a replacement ct20, if so can I use one of a the ct20s from the hilux engines?
    B) suggest an easy replacement that will work without too many modifications.
(I know there is the ct26) but I wasn't sure if this is a good option or the effort required in pulling a good turbo apart and reclocking so the oil drain line will be gravity fed.
    C) is it worth rebuilding, if so who is a good option to trust with this thing.
    D) should I be on the look out for a potential block that could have caused the bearing to pop.

And finally does any one located in Perth have a replacement option or advice on a rebuild.

    Thanks in advance guys!
    All the best - Jamie

Replacement CT20 is a possible, Hilux is the wrong CT20, you need a single entry and AFAK it's distinct to the 3TGTE
Rebuilding the CT20 in my opinion wouldn't be worth the cost that comes with a rebuild, (would be more cost effective and reap larger rewards choosing a different turbo)
CT26 from a 7MGTE would be my reccomendation, elongate the mounting stud holes=no need for a custom manifold, and there a nice size for a 3tgte upgrade without going execssive

Problem with most 7M CT26's is they usually aren't great condition either. You may to factor in a rebuild regardless.

FWIW I got a rebuild kit from eBay (Kunigawa) and did my own rebuild. $75 for the kit, about 2 hours all up to fit it, and it works fine (7M-GTE Turbo A CT26) You just need to be very careful marking up before disassembly so the compressor wheel goes back exactly in the same place...(I used a laser mounted in a second vice to throw a line for alignment. So far about 3000km on the rebuild at 18psi with no issues)
