Default 1ggte not firing on front three cylinders

Finally fired up the 23 today.
Sadly it's not firing on the front three cylinders. Spark on these three is present at the dizzy but really weak. Pulled the dizzy cap and there is nothing obviously worn. It does look like there is an inner rotor button and outer (I think I've used the right term).
At the moment we are thinking the isse must be in the dizzy, but has anyone seen this sort of problem before?

Is it weak compared to the back three? Or just weak?

Where I'm coming from is that maybe all the cylinders have a weak (but acceptable) spark, and spark might not be your problem. IIRC the 1g fires the injectors in 2 batches of 3... Possibly front three and back three. So maybe there is something wrong with the signal or power to the front 3 injectors.

    just a suggestion though.

Timbo, it's definitely weak spark on the front three and strong spark on the back (you can see and hear the spark on the back three while the front three are visible if you shade them).
It looks like it corresponds to the inner (strong spark) and outer (weak spark) rotor buttons in the dizzy. So pulling each plug around it is alternating strong/weak.
So I'm thinking problem with the rotor button.

It seems to smooth out as the revs increase but after checking this seems to be purely a mechanical artifact as there is clearly no spark.

We haven't yet tested the injectors since there is clearly such a massive difference in spark strength.

You know Tim, if I wasn't already to afraid to talk to my wife about the car, I'd be pounding on your door.

But I'm really in cost reduction mode at the moment.

Believe me, I thought about your engine before and it's a pipe dream right now, unless of course more things go wrong with mine

I should mention that there was some clanging when we started the engine, but it stopped a few minutes after we had started it. We decided the mod to the sump just needed some "internally managed kinetic relief" from the crank, since it stopped after 15 minutes or so.

I've said this before, but none of this would be a problem except for Kedderz.

are you using a non-factory ECU? if so, then chris_rg discovered that the GTE ignition did some fancy things (edit: see thread for accurate description). There's some discussions about it in a thread .. ah, this thread:

Thanks Chuckster, it's a fair point which I should have covered.

The engine is a bog, stock std gen 3. No fancy bits at all, unless the previous owner has tried to swap the toyota ECU for EA falcon items (it's a long story )

All stock including ECU but that thread is a good read and it does give us a couple of other things to check over. But given that I have half the spark and it pretty much matches the outer ring on the dizzy, we'll still start there.

After a bit more googling, it seems this exact issue has been posted about on here previously.

Looks like Linden aka the realroadrunner has a solution that does not involve replacing the cap.
