Default Ae86 coupe compliance - tail lights

I recently purchased an 86 coupe, and in he process of getting it complied, but have been pulled up because the rear lenses on the tail lights don't have any ADR stamps etc, so they won't pass compliance without doing a photometric test, to test the brightness etc. the compliance guy said he could pass them if I can't get an old test result from someone else, otherwise I will have to get these tested myself which will be more $$. Can anyone help out?
    Cheers

The ADR calls up other standards as well. The compliance mark does not have to be on the outside but could be on the back housing. Some BMWs want smooth lines and all the compliance marks are out of sight. Also, I think you are unlucky to be pulled over and picked for that.

Well the issue is not being pulled over, its getting the car complied. The compliance guy has already spotted this, and asked me to fix it up, so I dont have a choice unfortunately.

Nowhere at all. There is plenty of things written on there, but certainly no E. The car is a Jap import, so I don't expect it to have any ADR approval markings on them??

    ahhh sure. yeh thats why.

so youll need every single light then. that sucks !!!.

call up a few import people near you, they would of ran into this for sure, they might have the paper work to pass it, or know some one that will lend you a full set of lights haha.

maybe find a compliance guy that will pass them, if they work perfectly and are the correct signal colours. (some auto engineers/examiners are nazi's, and some know the rules to help you out).

Don't get hung up with the letters ADR. Many of the ADRs are just reproductions of the european standards in fact they are just photocopies of them with an Australian front page. For instance, if you are looking for 'E' marks you are looking for a european approval. Those other numbers you have might be a japanese approval which you can cross-reference through the ADR. If the lights are made in Japan they most likely comply but if they are Chinese or South-East Asian they most likely don't comply in fact, even if they are E marked they probably don't comply.

a circled E or E is AU standard, i see all ADM cars with them. if its not an au standard, then its a standard au recognises. all cars ive had engineered needed these marking.

i just checked out my triton, and there's E's all up in that bitch.

Fixeruperer, you not exactly correct. E is not the AU standard but one of the acceptable standards for AU (as you mention). E means Europe and if there is a number after it, that tells you in which european country the approval was given. If there is just a plain E it probably means the light was tested to the european standard but not in a european country. In which case there must be other numbers or identifiers elsewhere on the light to track down the manufacturer and/or test organisation.

i know for sure that the japanese AE86 tail lights have passed and there is paper work or at least they meet the relevant ADRs (via the numbers) due to amount of imported cars already here and coming in regularly enough.

it seems you may have a rather picky compliancer who may not exactly know the finer details of this particular import (IE he might be a predominantly american importer not a japanese importer)

try contacting someone like iron chef imports or top secrect imports who deal exclusively in japanese cars.
    N/A for life...
