Default Inspecting a 1JZ from JZX90 tomorrow. What to look for?

Hey guys I'm fairly new to the JZ game, I came to the dark side from Nissan...

I'm looking at a 1JZGTE from a JZX90 manual. 104k on the clock of the front cut (which is obviously false).

The guy said he can get it running for me, what are things to look at apart from the obvious oil leaks and rust/corrosion?

I wanna try and inspect the turbos at least for shaft play. I'm gonna service everything including timing and water pump, anything else to look out for?

    Cheers!

Inspect the coil packs for cracks, smoke on start up from valve stem seals, oil around/inside the rear turbo. Check condition of the idler pulleys as a new belt could of been put on but these not replaced, take cam covers off, look for sludge indicating poor maintainence, etc etc

First make sure the engine is cold. Then connect a bulb to its oil sensor so it would indicate low oil pressure and see how long it stays on after engine is started. Anything above 2 seconds is a strong reason not to buy the engine

    so... here it is!

the oil in the engine was nice and golden brown, as you can see it starts easily when cold, doesn't leak anything...

Found no oil in the compressor outlets, valve cover and sump are only weeping slightly, usual 100k kms sorta stuff, haven't had a chance to look at the turbos yet in terms of shaft play.

Everything I've been taking off has been clean inside and seems like its the first time they have come off, and coupled with the fact that everything is stock as a rock, in Japan I'd say it hasn't been thrashed by an 18 yo, but maybe a little neglected in terms of oil changes. (slight gunk build up underneath the valve cover from what I can see through the oil cap, but when I felt it with my finger I think it was just oil splatter from the cams, not gunk/sludge.

    cant complain for $2000!

looking at oil pressure upon cold start would give far better idea on wear etc.. than poking fingers under valve cover

If it has not been started for quite a while before recording the video (over 8 hours as a rule of thumb) , it's really in very good condition.

Yeah last time I started it was about 24 hours before. Sweet looks like its okay so far!

Yeah it came with R154 originally, but the guy took it out first. I have W58 for my plans anyway, R154 doesn't fit without heaps of tunnel massaging.

I've since inspected the turbos, 0 axial shaft play and only the smallest radial play, (my brand new Garret BB had more). No oil in the intercooler or comp. pipes.

Had original Denso iridium/platinum plugs. They looked 100,000 old...
