consider the AFM too, ive seen heaps of nissans behave this way with faulty AFM's, and a few toyota's. exactly as you describe, at a certain rpm or boost point they start to behave like their stuck on a rev limiter, then you back off and pop, all the excess fuel burns off. i'd suggest it's probably ignition not fuel, the pop is a giveaway there.
This is a really far out, witty and clever signature.

120y if you were in Newy i'd bring her around.

nb86 i have been a bit sus on the afm for a little while. You see i have been mucking around with alternate air filter setups for about 6 months. But i didnt think that relocating it would slowly kill it?? Unless i was too rough with it.hehe.

Ill see if i can find one and ill replace it. To eliminate that. Cheers

I reckon its fuel related too.

The fuel that a GZE sucks when it hits boost is huge (relative to NA mode). Going over 5 is just at the point i reckon where the demand will rise exponetially and a lack-lustre fuel system will start to show.

Not sure about the popping tho. Maybe injectors are running almost full duty which doesnt exactly lend itself towards efficient, appropriately timed fuel injection.

Filter is changed so Id check, FPR, injector flow, pump, tank & lines. Probably in that order.

If you had a vacuum/boost leak i would expect idling problems.

OK guys my mechanic has diagnosed a faulty fuel pump that loses pressure after it heats up.

Does anyone know what other model fuel pumps are compatible with my AW11. Just incase i have an issue locating a gze one?

Also are they all the same size? WIll it fit into the bracket that is factory for my jap gze

Are you after an in-tank pump, or an external. Either way an uprated Walbro is probably a good way to go. A GZE wont be pushing enough pressure to cavitate one either, as some people have complained of.

    Itll fit in fine.

Get yourself a VL turbo pump, .6 litre surge tank and a lift pump.

This setup is good for about 350hp and I guarantee that you wont have any issues in the future.

The lift pump takes a lot of load off the High Pressure pump and it wont overheat and stuff up like it sounds like yours did.

It should set you back about $390 for all this gear.
    cheers

But if he is still running stock MR2 GZE pump then its probably 20 years old and was just dying. A simple Walbro or Bosch intank pump would suffice easily and cost $180.
