Default Solex carbs - broken mixture screw

    Hi Guys,

Got a problem that I'm hoping someone can help out with...

I have a 2tg running solex carbs (well it would be, if I could get it to run). The carbs needed some love so I got them re-built by Rodger off here and he did a great job. Long story short, I sent the car off to the mechanic for some better tuning, came back not that much better than before... Pulled the mixture screws out tonight and noticed that one of them has a distinctly absent tip. Cue massive freakout, grab a torch and look down the little hole and sure enough the tip of the mixture screw has broken off and is stuck in the hole...

Anybody got any tips on how to fix it? I'd rather not pull them apart again if at all possible as they were just rebuilt, but if that's what it takes...

    Cheers,
    Doug

OK, so for anyone else who ever has the same issue and isn't sure what to do - the needle point actually protrudes through into the barrell of the carb on the downstream side of the throttle plate. Pull the carb off the manifold and you'll see it. Some pressure with the round end of a ring spanner will pop that sucker right out of there.

Now time to find another, non broken mixture screw...

    Cheers,

    Doug.

PM your address again and I'll put one in the post for nicks. Call it a bit of help to a customer.

    Type R was it?

    Regards

Tight enough to break off a hardened steel tip forced into its soft alum. seat? It's fucked for most carbs but hopefully Solex can survive it.
Some do not have access to the tip in the bore, others have the seat completely pushed into the bore leaving a crater.
Is it possible for one that's lightly seated to corroded solid enough to break off, a divine fracture or is it only complete assholes that can break them off.
    Good luck.
