A W55/7/8 would be a good choice. These can be found in a few different cars, SA63 Celica's, MA60 & 70 Supra's. Probably lots of others too!

A W58 from a GA70 Supra or GZ20 Soarer would be the most obvious choice as it has a G series bellhousing. Or if the budget stretches far enough, a 6-speed from a Lexus IS200 would work as well.

maybe look into the gear ratios. IMO the 57 would be a good choice because of it's closer ratios. A 58 is super strong and a bit much for an fe, a 55 would be a good choice too.

Norbie: a 6-speed would be sweeeettt

    This is my gearbox .

celica and supra gearbox would be hard ot find ..

    any lower option ?

I am not sure what gearbox this is - was told is T50 not sure really ..

I am having some problem with GEAR 2 - i had twice enage it .. and the car did not move .. felt weird also . as if the clutch is not working .. giving off a weird cracking sound .

please advice - a more common car here would be Corolla . will a 1JZ engine gearbox fit mine ? i saw some 1JZ engine here with gearbox for sale .

What would be the best Gearbox to hunt for -- in term of engine ..

    over here in thailand -

    3SGE
    1JZ
    2JZ
    SR20DE
are engine which i can find ..

    sure looks like a T50.

i'd also try bleeding your clutch setup - check for oil leaks ect.

xJZ's came with R154's (or autos) but these won't bolt up to the 1GFE
if you could find a 2S you could use the w5x box off that in place of your T50. you would need to find a G series bellhousing though for this to work.

any pics of the 1GFE sitting in the TA22 engine bay? interesting.

If you want to track down a J160 gearbox (6 Speed. Aisan made gearbox IIRC), it will be on a 3SGE in an Lexus RS200 if you got them in Thailand, or an IS200 (Straight bolt on). You can find W58's behind JZ's, and these are shorter boxes, so less headach.
Nikita the RA23 is almost finished .
