Default ra40 standard clutch replacement 5speed manual

    Hey guys,

Currently trying to replace the clutch in my ra40 5speed manual.
its an 81' model with a 18rc motor, all standard.

I ordered a standard excedy replacment clutch kit to replace the clutch, and the splines coming from the gearbox drive don't match the clutch plate. the Teeth on the spline are square, whilst the fittings for the clutch kit are actually triangular. Im not sure what the go is there, but it dosnt line up AT ALL.

Auto one are screwing me around telling me the only kit available is the one i have by excedy, has anyone ever encountered this before?

Or does anyone have a part number or kit number that will correctly fit?

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks!

the clutch disc that is in there doesn't look like it's the same? the only way to have a triangular ID sleeve is to have a squarish OD shaft. have never encounted this before -

just making sure, have you actually tried to put the disc on the spline?

I have actually encountered issues when ordering parts for my 18RC. If your not specific on the year of the car and whether its and 18R or RC, you can end up with very different parts! I also got an incorrect clutch, I currently have an RA60 clutch as mentioned above. =P

I've had fuel pumps that don't fit, incorrect piston rings, completely different dizzy cap to the dizzy itself (I had to ask for a hilux 18RC dizzy cap). But everything on the engine is standard, and I later found out that there were 4 or 5 different 18R's and RC's.

Well thats not very good customer service and he should have a stern talking to by the boss =P If you know his name, ask for the manager and say he was rude.

About the clutch, I'm not sure about the triangle spline verses square, I never got that issue but what I did get was actually out by one spline and didn't fit due to being to small. The 'shapes' you got are rather odd? I'd just go with RA60 =P Unsure of the part number, my auto store are pretty good.

the problem being they won't return to warehouse the time i gave them because its be 'attempt fitted' which is pretty bs.
the auto one guy was pretty convinced either a: my mate who is a qualified mechanic didn't know how to install it or b: the gearbox isn't original.

A few Auto stores are like that, I had trouble returning a fuel pump that they got incorrect just because I tried fitting it. How are you meant to know if it fits or not without trying it first? It is ballshit, because they don't want to be responsible for the incorrect hardware being sold.

What better way then make the customer seem incorrect =P What happened to 'the customer is always right'? Well to an extent anyways...
