Default TA22 height adjustable coilover using pedders kit

    Hey all,

I have inherited 2 rear Pedders Sports Ryder eXtreme XA Coilovers which were purchased for the rear of an 03-06 Toyota Camery however are not required.

    Kit looks like this: http://www.pedders.com.au/PS_images/...1240533624.pdf

My theory is using these units to install in the front of my TA22 struts..

Without having the pedders coilovers to measure up yet, Resources on the net indicate that the coilover threaded tube is 46mm and the TA22 strut tube is 51mm. The common coilover kits that people are buying usually have a coilover threaded tube that slides OVER the existing strut, but this conversion would need to go INSIDE the existing strut tube..

I more then likely need to cut down the original strut and weld a threaded section to the top of the tube so I can screw in the coilover then lock it down with the nut provided in the kit..

The only other issue I can see is that the camry strut top would have a different bolt spacing hence I would need to purchase an aftermarket strut top (preferably with camber adjustment) to fit the TA22 tower if compatible..

The shock and spring combo may also be an issue in terms of height adjustment etc but I will cross that bridge when I get there..

Is this upgrade worth the hassle, or am I better off selling these coilovers to someone with a camry then using the typical T3 kit etc..

    Your thoughts are appreciated

I think TA22 is 48mm strut tube, later RA23 and on went to the 51mm strut tube, so bear that in mind with your plans.

I can't get my head around how you are thinking you will slip the coil over into your existing housing, but in my imagination it is a massive fark around for very little gain.

I would definitely sell them and buy something that is intended for your car.

Well I got the coilovers and measured up the OD of the threaded Sleeve, it is approx 50mm.. Doesn't look like I will be able to use these coilovers after all..

Might have to post these up in the classifieds section.

    Cheers,

    Rob

any sleeve over kit is not worth the hassle in my opinion.

You cant easily change the ride height without either affecting spring preload, or you have to swap and change helper/tension springs.

If you have all the correct measurements and approx height you are chasing...the spring combination can be set up easily using a kings progressive rate coil or a KST coil to keep it trapped and no spring preload issues..
It is not as easy as everything thinks.
We do this day in day out and people buy the kits of us and then end up bringing them back for us to make.
We have done plenty of corolla and celica coilovers and have all the specs required to do it right.
If you need some info or need any bits let me know.
