security keys & ECUs

With the newer cars, they have a security coded key.
I've got the opportunity to pick up a cheap car because the key is missing.
If I get a matching key, ignition barrel & ECU from a wrecker of the same spec vehicle, can I simply install those to get the car working again?

it should but then u have the doors are not the right key
which is ok but long term can be a pain

some cars are easy to code
somre are a pain
some toyotas also have an immobiliser ecu so u need that too

i have programmed afew toyotas where all keys are missing
its hit n miss and sometimes u take half a day
but its still cheaper than buying new engine ecu

toyotas are hardest to get working if all keys r lost
toyota recomend new engine ecu which comes in a virgin state
ready to accept the first key inserted
well this could cost over and up to 1500 or 2000 bucks

i have been playing with reading the immob chip onboard the ecu and programming keys that way
but im still new to this so its all a big learning curve

holdens are easy
u just need a scanner or for later ones tech2 scanner and tis software which i have

fords r easy by using demister button
newer fords u need ford ids which i have but not used much

nissans are easy if u have scanner and correct software

What year is it? I have an ecu + key from an 06 model that could be sold to you..

buy a key from the dealer.

even BMW135 keys are only $700 or so


unless of course the car is stolen...

u can use clone keys but they r hit n miss
i fkt around with a nissan and it kept loosing the key
would start after i programmed it but once u turned car off it would fail

bought genuine key for 150 bucks programmed it and no probs
so u need to know which clone keys work otherwise get genuine keys

The car is only worth $800 (about $4k - $5k intact), so I'm hoping for a couple hundred to just get a matching key & ECU out of a wreck, and probably the door locks also.
I do have an ECU & key here, but apart from needing them, I don't know if that will work (and this car isn't handy to just go try either).

what did the dealer quote for a new key?

$800 for car and 4-5K intact leaves you with at least $3000 to get a new key

it seems unlikely that a ky for a relatively new car worth $5000, would be more expensive than a BMW key at $700.

callt he dealer before you call a wrecker and stop f#ckign around.

Who know what the fk anyone is talking about
We don't know what car it is
Maybe he doesn't want anyone to steal it
As some cars it's easy to bypass immobiliser
Just not toyotas

I thought I asked a pretty simple question in the first post, I didn't ask for other's value judgements on what I should do with my money.

I also have the required ECU with matching key here already for another purpose, but I'm aiming to find a cheap car for someone who needs cheap reliable transport.

well if u knew how keys and security work then its not really a simple question
theres a million differnet cars in the world and half a million different ways to program keys

anyway if u have the ecu and key it will start as i did it the other day on a customers car
not sure what model it was thou but i just said have this ecu and key and it will work hehehehe

thats y yr keeping it secret ive read on here they dont like them

also only some cars store the key code in the engine ecu
the other have have it elsewhere in the car so u need that too
