I did a W58 (JZA80 NA) + 1JZ-GTE into a transmission tunnel that would have close to zero clearance with those big 5-speed boxes.
Gearbox is sweet on the 1JZ. Been running fine for the last 5+ years. 216rwkw 14psi with a diff that was originally behind a 90kw engine. Stock twins.
cross member? there's close to no load (well, for my setup it is) being applied to the gearbox xmember. 3.0mm plate is fine.
I paid 1250$ for the whole W58 set, including transport from adelaide to perth, 7 years ago.
Make sure you:
1) resurface / regrind both clutch faces. Mine was done by some big brake workshop where they deal with brakes/clutches and nothing else.
2) replace front (big) and rear bearings. Mine whine too much. This is a time consuming step, but worth the quietness.
3) buy/install new OEM-spec clutch (the consumable part). You will have slippage for the first 200-500 km, but once it's run in, it's fine. But I only had one of my clutch faces re-grinded, not both.
You will have many hours of fun aligning the shaft into the (new, small) centre bearing located on the engine. It took me 2-4 hours. Dont want to do that again.
Hope that helps.
