engine mounts, intake manifold from fwd to rwd, water piping, exhaust manifold + exhaust, radiator hose, thermo fan, tail shaft, wiring & computer, efi fuel pump & surge tank ..... the list goes on.
Hey guys
Im going to be doing a smallport 4age conversion to a ta22 celica what is involved in the conversion apart from the standard t50 box ?
cheers.

Lot of effort for not much gain over what can easily be done on a 2t/3t

I know theirs no real gain in power but im only dropping a 4a in cause parts are a lot easier to find for them and i already have a crossmember with rack and pinion setup for a ta ready to go.
The engine will run much smoother as well. I am curious is the crossmember from me?
I hope you're not serious ? I've never felt anything but smooth from 2tc/3tc/2tg/3tg/3tgte but every single 4ag ive driven (there's been a few) has a horrible harshness at varying revs between 1800-2200rpm..
Anyone else noticed this ? This is in rwd format, fwd's don't count for anything![]()

I better add this is with 20V engines, they run nice and smooth for me
yeh i am, when i had a ta22 it was running a 2t, very forgiving gearbox, but the only few reason id want a 16v in a ta22 is i have a motor ready with a w58 bolted to it, easier to find parts, and i can build a 16v blindfolded, but yes rrwd 4a's are rough
Can get a 1gg bellhousing for w series to t motors.. Bolts straight up, or the rare 3tgte w series bellhousing.. But yes t motor parts are getting less plentifull and more expensive..
And Sam yes maybe the 20v doesn't suffer from the same harmonics.. It seems to be under mild load around the 2k rpm mark in 4th or 5th gear maybe 3rd too.. Has always been with stock manifolds and ecu's..

I have a 4agze ta22 and another one which I plan to drop a 2tg/3t hybrid into.
The 4age is a far better engine in nearly every way mechanically. Twin cam, 16 valve more power, EFI, easier to turbo, much lighter, etc. But you do need to make a lot of changes, custom extractors, mounts, efi, fuel system, piping, custom tailshaft etc etc.
Take a look at my threads below. Rex Kelway did the conversion on my car. Unless you do the work yourself it quickly becomes a 5K job. There is also some info on the 2tg/3t option on my other green ta22 thread. Some info on the later pages.
alrite thanks heaps
