Default Some late model Hiux info need re: diffs

    Hey guys,

I'm after some information regarding late model Hilux diff center's. I can't seem to find much on Google and there are so many model codes and ratio's.

    We have a 2006 Hilux Dual Cab, it's the 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 model. I believe it's model code to be GGN15R?
What is the difference between a 15R and a 25R?

It has a non-LSD center and we wish to put an LSD center in it. Does anyone know the ratio of the stock diff (haven't had a chance to manually check it) and secondly, where we would find a decent LSD center and from what? I heard there was some 45mm-50mm bearing size difference to be aware of also. I know I could call a 4x4 place but thinking we may find something on eBay so be nice to know this info ourselves.

    Thanks!
    Kind Regards,
    Kurt.

If you can post up all of the info off of the build (data plate) esp the Trans/axle codes we can be of more help. What I can tell you off the top of my head is that they have a 200mm Crownwheel and different bearing sizes throughout the rear axle to the earlier Hilux. I believe that the axle spline count is the same and you may be looking at a reasonably tall (for a 4wd) ratio of something like 3.72. But until you find and post up the axle code I cannot say for sure as to be honest my knowledge of the later and current models isn't all that great but from a couple of calls that I've just had I have a feeling that this is going to change really fast over the next few months.

Also while not trying to plug for a 4wd shop I'd suggest giving Chris a call at locktedup4x4 as he imports a lot of gear from the US and does freight free nationally. Not saying you won't find what you want on eBay but when playing with driveline components it's sometimes better to err on the side of caution and deal with someone local just in case there are any warranty issues

    GGN15r is 2wd and GGN25r is 4wd
The diff centres are interchangable but you may need to change the rear uni joint flange.

You guy's are tops! Thanks heaps for that.

We must have the 15R then, 2wd model.

I'll have to wait till tonight or tomorrow to check the build plate and I'll post back here with it to get a bit more info. Also thanks for the contact 4th Surf. I know what you mean, you don't want to be going through the hassle of installing a driveline component like that finding it's noisy or something. I'll take note of that place you mentioned and give em a call.

Again thanks, and i'll post back later with the build data.
    Kind Regards,
    Kurt.
