winton fun track day

Went to this over the weekend , a mates son was having his 1st drive on a track in their Corolla Seca. Took the mighty red AE86 along , never been to Winton before. Bit of a hall for only a day , so stayed a night at Benalla. Track cost for the day --- $35 ( they have these twice a year ) .

We arrived at the track at 7am for a 8am gates open --- already 50 cars lined up . This is going to be epic, me thinks and so it was . Over 500 registered drivers and passengers on the day ---- more than 350 cars . Approx 50 to 70 cars on track at a time , sent out in 30 minute intervals, groups alternated between single driver cars and then cars with passengers. There was every possible type of car you could imagine --- std roadies , highly modified roadies , club cars , full blown race cars , hot rods , exotic sports cars etc etc .
In corolla's alone their was almost every model from 70's to the 90's represented with the following engine mix ---- 5k with webers ,4age , 2tgeu , sr20 turbo, beams injected ,& a 307 V8. Some of the other more interesting runners -----NISSAN GTR 31 to 35 , LOTUS , FERRARI , CAMARO , 327 HOT ROD , HONDA TYPE R , GTHO FALCON , ESCORTS , PANTERA ,ALTESSA etc etc.

So was it fun ??? You bloody bet it was !!!!! I did not learn much about the right way to get the lines right, as I spent most of my time off line passing cars , by the end of the day I had passed more the a 100 cars, HAD 3 X 30 Minute sessions ( could have had at least two more ) but a recent shoulder injury was starting to tell me it was not happy ( BUGGER ).

Yes I did pass the Ferrari -- NO I did not pass the R35 and I had a 5 lap dual with a Beams power Altessa that ended in a draw. There where some very good drivers there on the day , some pretty average drivers , not to many bad drivers --- most entered into the spirit of a FUN DAY. There was only a few spins ( considering the number of cars ) one hit the wall and one roll over ( caused by a broken axle ).
So would I do it again ---- Blood OATH !!!!!!

Jo Jo ---- There where a few SR20 powered corolla drift cars there ---- Power to weight does not seem to be a problem with this set up .
