While I accept you mods have your reasons for doing all this, I think the whole idea is crap and now have absolutely no interest in posting on this forum.

I visit many different forums, all of which have never had to resort this rubbish before. If it's your idea of trying to weed out the static or helping people who don't know what static is, then it's unnecessarily complicated.

For someone like myself who visits occassionaly and posts even less, I funnily enough resent been given any kind of a "rating" as to the value of my posts.

Added to this, you've then taken things again too far with the "1st year apprentice, grease monkey". Makes the whole thing seem a bit childish if you ask me. As a potential sponsor to this forum, I've lost interest immediately.

Because its more than just one person who looks at your posts and thinks what a waste of time reading them was. As pointed out by oldy corollas, if you post something really shit, then you are going to get hammered by everyone who looks at your post and thinks that its all just crap talk. And as Takai pointed out and Old corollas elaborated on... if you are interested in anything technical, and bring up a good subject that has not already been brought up, then people should respect the knowledge that such a question brings forth in peoples replies and pos rep you for asking a good question. Stop whining and get on with it.

John, I too was against the rep system when i first came out... look at my early posts on this thread... but i can now see the advantages of it. I still believe that 40 rep is a little too high for the priveledge list, 30 would be a lot more realistic as most people arent using the system properly or dont have rep power. I know i would have 40 rep now if everyone had 1 rep power. This is meant to be a tech based community, and the classifieds is just a side feature.

The grease monkey thing is a funny way of pointing out how many posts have been made... the old forums way with the post count was a bit too clinical. I personally want to get to back yard engineer (i think thats what it is) status... so ill keep the tech coming.

Yeah, basically the sub-titles based on post count are a bit of fun from my perspective.
Other forums im on have stuff like: n00b, Cannon-fodder etc etc, and many more quips. I believe even PF has L-plater and P-plater etc.

i dont think ill ever get the status where i can get an avatar, and its just not fair *sobs*

The whole point of the new systems is that we want to change the forums into a Tech-based one.
Unfortunately, that means it won't be the same as before. No point in whinging about this. Learn to accept it.

If you don't know much tech, then unfortunately, you will not be a prominent member. It doesn't mean that you will never be one though. I've seen many n00bs come to these forums over the years, absorb all the info, and turn into knowledgable (and valuable) members.

So let me reitterate. These are not the old forums. Don't try to compare them.

As for the rep system. Have faith in it. I see a lot of people whinging about getting unfair neg rep, but I don't see people whinging about receiving pos rep for non-tech posts.
At the end of the day, if you get neg rep, you're likely to feel hard done by. Just get over it and move on. What's one or two unfair reppings in the scheme of things.
Just make sure you follow the rules, post factual information, and be courteous to others. And it'll all work out at the end of the day.

As for the 40 rep limit. I actually agree, I believe that it should be 25. But remember, it's a system in trial and will be tweaked as time goes by and we learn more about it. Give it (and the Board) time and remember that whatever they do, it's for the best interests of the Toymods Car Club.

That's just a special description based on the user's rep.

Similar to the post count one (ie: Grease Monkey or 1st year Apprentice etc).

Any chance the rankings can be published in the FAQ?

    # Just to add to that, for example, check oldcorollas' rep ~ over 40 or something
    # the next grade is "getting there", and between 0 and 10 is "on a slippery slope".

These are the Toymods colours and it's the only theme that will be offered. Sorry.
