If no manual ecu becomes available
Is there a plug in unit such as a power fc?
Getting stuck into a beams swap on an ae101
Found a great st202 beams however it has no ecu it will be supplied with an automatic ecu
What type of potential issue will I face I I use the auto ecu?
It seems manual ecu's are quite hat to find so far

No plug in option.
I vaguely remember there was a guy in the states that has switched between auto and manual red and greytop ecus without issues. I'll see if I can find the thread. But I dont think you'll have any issues.
Blacktop has elec throttle so you possibly would in that situation, but redtop is cable.
Sounds good
It the only thing that's holding me back
Any thing you can dig up would be welcomed
You can just use the auto ECU, I have an auto ECU running my manual 3sgte and no problems at all. If you have a wiring diagram for it then just check what voltage the neutral start wire needs, in my case it was 0v to start so I just left it disconnected. I have some codes for missing shift solenoid etc but nothing that puts it into any sort of limp mode. So the auto ECU is still an option. Probably better than sourcing a grey top ECU as they have a slightly different tune and make less power
Or standalone
I would have thought the rpm parameters would be different ?
I know nothing about ecu's so please bear with me haha
Thanks for the advice guys
Any wire tips would be welcome
Best prepare myself
I haven't had any issues with mine making power or revving at all. According to the scan tool, the ECU thinks it's in 3rd I believe, but still allows it to start because of the neutral start switch wire having a 0v input (so it thinks it's in neutral too?). Other than that it's pretty much the same as wiring for manual ECU. Just make sure all your coils, injectors & sensors are getting the correct voltage to them and the ECU has it's powers and earths. Sounds simple enough haha
Have you got any wiring diagrams at all?
Not yet
I'm guessing I'll need an auto wire diagram right?
Usually they come on the same diagram & it just has ** saying for automatic on the wires & components relating to the auto trans. Might be harder to find a wiring diagram than the actual ECU but have a look around
Thanks dude makes me feel a bit better
No worries if you find some diagrams and need help making sense of them just shoot me a message
Bit of an old thread, but just letting you know that there IS an alternate solution. You can use an Apexi PowerFC from a 1ZZ engined car (So ZZW30 Spyder, 7th Gen Celica GT from the states, some Corollas etc) and there are a few minor pin changes to make and you can use it on the red top BEAMS.
Also, as stated above with a few little tricks you can just use the auto ECU. Or buy a manual one.
I'm going to be doing a Beams redtop swap from ST202 to my ST204 Celica very shortly How did your project go?
