you cant, it will behave like a open diff if u do the old jack it up and spin the wheels test, you will have to crack it open, it only takes a few minutes to take the back plate off
How can I tell if a diff has a torsen in it without taking it apart and checking on the inside..
It’s part of a whole rear end subframe complete disc to disc not in a car, was part of a whole car imported and front cut was sold nothing was noted from the ID tag...
It was an Altezza 6spd manual...

- ma61 + 2jz-gte + v160 + 3.5 torsen
yeh i thought so, i just got off the phone to the guy and he is willing to let me have a dig around it and find answers as long as i put it back together if it's not what i'm chasing! It's the whole subframe assembly, so i will have to take it out of that, then take the back cover off.. just need to search for pictures now of what the Torsen should look like![]()
literally the first few pics in google,
BMW type -
Toyota type Torsen -

doing some more reasearch on IS200/Altezza on toyoDIY
My IS200 (auto) has 4 bolt drive shafts.
according to toyodiy - 4 bolt drive shafts can be in IS200 auto/man, and Altezza Auto with/without LSD
however it seems that if it has 6 bolt drive shafts, it 'should' only be LSD version, and being from a manual SXE10 - it should almost be garunteed..
i will still pull the cover off and check offcourse but there appears to be a trend that might help others..
* If it was a manual SXE10 (of any build date knowing there are 4.1 and 4.3 after 2000) that has 6 bolt drive shafts. 99% sure LSD.
* If it's a manual SXE10 that has 4 bolt shafts could be either LSD or Open.
NOTE - most auto's appear to have 4 bolt Non LSD units..
