    Default sr20 ra28

i am thinking of switching my 18rc in my ra28 to an sr20de, for a number of different reasons, i was wondering does any work needed to be done to the tunnel of the car. this is my first time doing an engine transfer so any tips or advice is all welcome'd.
    thanks Mick

Have a read in the members ride section, photos, discussions, logs of same/similar projects will give you a clearer idea of what's been learnt in the past after reading. enjoy the forums.

I'm putting an SR20 in my TA23 at the moment. Easiest way to do it will be by getting a TA23 crossmember as the SR20 is front sumped. As far as tunnel mods go, I had to cut half of the brace that goes across the floor of the car, but that's it. The shifter sits quite a bit further back than standard unfortunately!

Also...if you're going to go to the trouble of a conversion, why not go straight for the turbo engine?

    Hi,

I have to agree. If you are going to blasphemise a classic with a datto engine then at least go for the turbo engine. Throwing in an 18R-G is a hell of a lot easier and cheaper, and gives the same performance.

i know what ya mean, but im from ireland and the sr20 is a well used engine over here, there are no 18rgs over here for me to get one, and the cost would be unreal to get one in from the uk and would have serious miles on it at that! So i decide to go with the sr20, im going non turbo because i seen first hand the trouble of turbos and imo its not really worth it if im not really looking for high numbres, but the engine is fully rebuilt with upgraded internals. now i haven't started the conversion yet ive only been thinking about it really, i was also thinking a bout a 7mgte or 1jz would they need tunnel work? any suggestions are welcomed
    thanks Mick

if you are dead set on the SR20 route, at least get one of the really late model versions that makes good power. I dont know SR20s that well, but im lead to believe that there are versions that are waaay better than others (similar to like a beams 3sge).

Good luck with it all... unforuntaely it probably wont be a cheap conversion, which is why i would recommend going turbo sr20.

Are you talking about ve engine or just s14/s15sr? Cos ve is pretty snazzy but s14sr is only vtc(vvt) on intake cam which I think is what beams 3s is.

But na sr will be fine to have fun. Stock sr makes same power or torque as gze or something, mate told me years ago. Pun some cams in it though, stock cams sound terrible.

Or even better option is 1uz. aside from the sound.

im not dead set on the sr20 route tbh, was thinking 4age or beams engine, would they need much work?, does anyone have a link to a good link for a project tread for them? the sr20 seams to sit too far back at the gearstick now.

Use an RB20 gearbox. It'll bring the gearbox forward by 5cm. or use a 720 w71c, that'll bring it even more forward but I don't know by how much.

4a would be the easiest fit. beams 3s is real tall. not that it can't be done.

For a BT BEAMS with attached 6spd, it should be zero.
Youll probably need to open up the shifter hole, but thats a minor 5min job.
