celsior / ls400 ucf11 towbar

this thread is just a FYI/picture thread.

this is the towbar i fab'ed for the celsior.

i bought a towbar off ebay (black one pictured in background) but it didnt fit.

ive built this one with a toyota type slide in tongue and locking pin. this one also has three 75x8mm plates bolted to the spare wheel well.

more pics to come when i install it tomorow (paint is drying).

plated it today. 2000kg/150kg.

got a genuine toyota tongue that fits straight in.

Just called up local place, he said Hayman don't make one, and its genuine only.

EDIT: Hayman website agrees, IS250 is only Lexus listed.

Going rate according to website is about $400 for a 900kg bar, and $700 for a 1500+ kg bar (only looked at a few different sedans, not 4wd's)

what would an equivelent haymann reece towbar from another vehicle (with similar design) sell for?

if i was to make them it would be a proper job, including genuine toyota ball, pin, clip, plastic cover. also painted and plated to around 2ton.

and..... it would have to be my worthwhile!

wonder how much interest there would be among other forums? (lextreme?)

I have searched and no one makes them for our model.
I would love my Celsior to be my tow car for my AE86 drift car

As no-one makes them, iam sure you could sell them if advertised in the right place.

If you decide it may be worth your while, let me know.
if you make multiple at a time, it should be easily worth your while

Judging by what i pay trade for say a landcruiser towbar id guess about $500 for Brett to make a few up , Cruiser towbars look about the same as Bretts one and are about $350.
But they are 100 times more common so bigger production run of them .
Just my thoughts .

sounds about right dave...

im happy to go through with making some now as i have priced the materials.

next step is to find time to put them together. at worst i would expect i could belt out a few in the mid semester break, around 8 weeks away.

do you have a pic of where the 'side wings' are bolted up?

do you think it would be secure/strong enough to tow a car on a trailer?

i got a mate (engineer) to plate the towbar to 2000kg/150kg

i will be towing the supra on a car trailer with this setup tomorrow.

the 'side wings' are attached with 2 x M12 bolts per side that go through the box 'chassis rail' section. these were originally the tow hook mounting points.

there is also 1 x M8 bolt per side however this is only for the exhaust pipe hangers.
