Default Celsior tilt steering column doesn't work

    Hi Guys,

i've got a celsior here that i'm busy fixing everything before i get it on the road and have hit a wall with the tilt steering. The telescopic part works fine (moves in/out) but the tilt is sitting at the highest part and quite frankly is a pain. From what i can gather control has 5v in and has varying voltage out to an ecu through resistors on the board that the wires go in/out of. This board that sends a control signal to an ecu only has two wires into it so it doesn't have a separate control wire etc for the in out vs up down so it's not in that control. So from there i'm guessing it is either the ecu that sends the signal or the motor itself.

What i'm wanting to know is where is the ecu is to see if everything is connected properly and does anyone know what voltage goes through this motor so i can test it.

Hey, look here under steering (after saving all of it! )

    http://www.staticfrost.com/manual/90...F11%20Manuals/

If you pull it apart, there are two slide type potentiometers that vary the voltage that sets the travel for the auto return.
Usualy when it stops working, the plastic cog which drives the mechanism has slipped sideways on its shaft. A quick fix is to pack it back out with some washers each side and you should be right to go.

    Hi!

I went through with a separate 12v source into the motor and it works fine - though i did the spacer thing anyway. Where the issue seems to be is the height sensor thing that sends the varying voltage to let the ecu(?) know if it is at the top or not. The steering wheel now goes up easily and will basically just click to go down. So for some reason the ecu isnt getting the right voltage to tell it that it can go back down.

Hmm, yeah. I can vaguely remember you can disconnect the slider and give it a few runs back and forth, but it will also not run if the tab is too far up either end of the slider.
I tried to use the column switch to run the motor, but it would only work occasionally depending on where the slider was. Put it back together and it all worked good, so I havent touched it since...

dang. Wish mine was like that. Thing is, if the height switch sensor isn't connected, then it goes down no worries (so it obviously needs 5v to tell it to stop) and when the sensor IS connected then it goes up no worries. I'm thinking of just putting a switch in the wire that sends power to the sensor to turn it on or off so i can either raise or lower it. Seems like the easiest soluation atm.

K - so the kind chaps at toyota were smart enough to program in extra things obviously as override/recalibration into these systems. If you tap the up/down 8 times regardless of what the sensor tells the ecu on the eighth click it'll engage the motor and move the column. I haven't tried the auto repositioning as it turned it off, but at least i can move it in all directions without having to remove anything or put in extra switches

    WIN!
