Seriously though, on an unprepped surface the AWDs just have too big an advantage in ET and virtually impossible to claw that second or so back regardless of top end. Top speed levels the playing field and encourages the drama of massive hp trying to get laid down. Why turn up with 1000hp, if you can't get off the line quickly with 600? You are just encouraging the wrong aspect of this event. I'm pretty sure the UK and Euro events are geared to reward top speed.

The clear winner on the day for me was the Supra running a whopping 20kph faster than the ET winner
I don't really agree - 1000m is too short to take that sort of approach - maybe in a mile event - or a timed flying KM event - but for 'streety' cars a timed event is better.

HP is just how fast you want to spend.

It's also a bit of a false reading looking at the 4wd vs 2wd in the results - because both the evo's in the top 5 were racecars... not street cars like the supra, GTR and even the 9sec Capris.

At the end of the day, after the first 250m, AWD is no longer an advantage - its a disadvantage.

Nah, after 250m it's of little consequence not a disadvantage. Up to 250m it's a clear advantage.

A 9 sec RWD Capri getting done by a mid 10 sec AWD car illustrates my point perfectly.

I'm not saying drop ET entirely but the point IS top speed. All the big guns are there to crack 300kph, not 20 seconds.

A blend might be a reasonable compromise where your position reflects both ET and top speed? A slight weighting for speed and results would be a better reflection of performance for this distance.

As for dollars, of course it's Motorsport so $$$ always wins in the end. That diesn't mean you can't have a well thought out, built and budget racer to give the big guns a nudge though how many Lambos did the trade ute beat?

That really didn't seem to be the case - last two events have seen some serious competition for class honours...

interestingly the Capri runs the same km/h as the GTR, less power, much less weight.

I'd be interested to see how much aero makes over the standing KM.. I was hoping to run higher km/h than i have..

I beat two lamborghinis this event - but previously I'd lost out on time, but beaten it on km/h (the green one at cooma was the black one from temora 2011).

To be honest - the only reason i did so well at cooma, is because I went after a good time on the first run... the track had gone away by the time i got the second.

Interestingly I beat my old car - that was AWD, has more power than me, and is lighter...

    oh NME308 -

as for the HP vs speed Vs etc..

I ran my ute at WSID on the wednesday before cooma.

    1450kg with driver

    1/8th - 150 km/h
    1/4 - 192 km/h

then on saturday over the km - 225 km/h

your 1100hp vs 350 theory was nearly tested - but there was fuel pump issues with the drag skyline that showed.

I think it should be run on the grass next to the runway next year, for an improvement in the surface

Matt: where was the 2J-IS this time?

Haha- I'd better check under the bonnet before I pick it up!

It's getting a tremec 6 speed box, new clutch and a diff upgrade. Just couldn't get it together before Cooma.

Lol- I hadnt thought of that!

Yeah we had some adapters machined up to suit the a 340 bellhousing, courtesy of JMR. Ihave a few to sell if people are interested in this conversion. Suits t56/tr6060 to Toyota J and UZ series engines.
