    Wow I love that footage!

You know what an old school afficionado like myself loved the best???
Yep the old school jacked up Ford Capri with ZERO aero and a naturally aspirated 650HP windsor V8 going blow for blow with the mega HP (1100+rwhp) Nissan GTR's and coming within a fly's whisker of the outright win!!!
The GTR boys making excuses about their aero not sufficient to break out of the 280kph zone was hilarious.

Thank God they were Nissans. Please do NOT allow any 1100+HP Toyota anythings that cannot crack 350kph near that event or I'll die of embarrasment...

    Cheers,

    clearly a stock capri

Unfortunately that footage doesn't show the other 'normalish' GTR's that had the other places in the top 5.

The mostly Carbon fibre GTR thats in the footage came second - but its a newish car, still sorting it before turning up the wick - was my understanding.

    edit - thanks MattC

lol, it's easy - copy the URL from youtube, then just use the [ VIDEO] and [ /VIDEO] tags instead of [ URL] [ /URL] when you paste it into your post. Job done

    Thanks - fixed.

BTW NME it would take a lot more than 1100 hp to run 350

I'm talking real horsepower not modern day shetland ponies...

My 785RWHP dyno tune used to put out 975 Moroso Hp to the dragstrip i.e. 147mph (240kph) over 400 meters and still had me pinned to the seat often fighting to keep it in my lane. That was a brick for aero 1700kg HQ kingswood.

Same engine in old mates brick for aero 1230kg capri would give 264kph by the end of the first 400 meters. Take it to 1100RWHP and that capri would be doing 290KPH within the first 400 meters. Give him 2.5 dragstrips length and I'll bet my leftie it would have had an extra 60kph...

well that capri above runs 220km/h in the 1/4 and ran 265ish in the km... the VL from last year with 600kw, went 297 (within a few km of the 600kw GTRs - like the one that won this year).

this - runs about 350 in the km

but makes a lot more than 1100hp, and is a lot more aero.

    Won't what?
Won't run 290kph to the first 400 meters? It is an unimpeachable fact that a 1230kg car needs 1290 Moroso HP horsepower to run 290kph over the 1/4mile - elapsed time will vary somewhat with traction and how well the car launches but terminal speed changes very little. An engine built to the old school methods will run around 1100rwhp to make the required 1290 Moroso HP on the drag strip.

Don't be fooled by the myriad of mega horsepower dyno cars which abound today but cannot pull the proverbial skin off a rice custard... That capri was running naturally aspirated with a GENUINE 650 horsepower. His 650 Moroso HP to the dragstrip will measure around 500 - 550rwhp and was taking it right up to the GTR's and you guys can't seem to understand the deal! Those two GTR's DO NOT have horsepower in the real world - it purely exists on a piece of paper!!! There is horsepower and there is horsepower and I guarantee a genuine 1100RWHP as measured off a car putting the numbers down at the dragstrip as per previous paragraph will be capable of 350+kph over a standing kilometer.

IF and only IF a vehicle can shift its weight over a given distance at a given terminal speed does it have the horsepower required to perform the feat.

in case that wasnt clear enough....

i was agreeing that dyno numbers are only useful for tuning....
