would this be okay for my first track day or should i hit a speed of the streets first to get a feel for the track and car?

One of these days would be far better then speed of the streets, far more track time & far less retards on the track. As long as you are sensible and let faster guys through if you are still getting the hang of things then you'll have a great day. That and you can get to know some toymodders and have some beers afterwards while we talk shit and watch some vids of the day if you decide to crash at the Pelican.
Edit: The August track day I went to last year was my first track day, was great to have guys like Garth & Justen come for a run and give me tips on better lines, braking points and even gear selection etc. Certainly improved my times substantially in each subsequent session.

If in doubt power out
as above. much more learning opportunity on one of these days, more time on the track, more toymodders to talk to, basically better in every way.
Need to decide if i want to do a track day (this one) or a drift day (also at wakefield on the 17th), the boss wont let me do both. Toymods crew would be better company. Hmm tough decision.

Is that really a hard decision?

Well i have done a drift night with the new turbo and no track day with it, but i will have to get new rear tyres for a track day and i have multiple sets for a drift day.
I realize you aren't that keen on drifting but it is a lot of fun.
although this does come to mind

Haha, nice one Glenn
What turbo did you end up going with?

I got a gt35r with a .7 rear. so it's pretty responsive, power delivery is completely different. It's like a new car
Said I would go to the last one, didn't, regretted it
So its $195 for the day + $30 for a night in a love cabin?
is the pelican open again yet?
The pelican closed?? Or are you talking about the refurbishment of the bunkhouse into upmarket condo-style apartments too expensive for our tastes completed last year?
It's not that bad. They look pretty nice - the appeal was just always the budget-ness for budget-minded budgeters. I was told the new prices and given a tour before they opened back in november i think, but i don't remember prices. I might have a word and see where things are at; i have a feeling the cabins are the new budget option. It still has a bonfire though.
If people want to i'm happy if you just transfer for the track now ($195) and we can sort the accomodation out later - but i need to know who's serious about staying each night so i know what we need.

Yeah, I had a chat to the owner before the last track day - bunk house is open, price for it is about the same as an almost-full cabin per person - if we get the cabins full, they're cheaper. Can't remember exact numbers
Who needs a bed just sleep near the fire pussies.
If in doubt power out
It's helpful to do this when completely pissed. Just ask Rona, he knows.
Actually, he may not remember.
