O.K. The following photo shows the proportioning valve as fitted to my ADM AE86. Again, this car has been converted over to standard vented fronts and disc rear. The proportioning valve has never been changed and was on the car when I bought it as a standard unmodified ADM car. The top section is for the fronts and the lower section is for the rears. In case the photos aren't located approximate to text, the one fitted to the red car is the one on my ADM car

The second photo (white background) shows a proportioning valve I personally removed from a JDM 4AGE front cut along with the brake booster/master cylinder. The lines were cut by me and it was all untouched insitu prior to me removing them. This unit incorporates the fronts and rears in one unit. According to the bodyplate, also removed by me, it had a 4.3 T series diff in it (T282), so I presume a disc brake rear end.

Sorry Tom86 but there are no part numbers on the master cylinders. They do however differ slightly in the way they bolt to the booster. The ADM one (Toyota Aisin 44610-12420) bolts on in a horizontal plane whereas the JDM one Toyota Nissin Kogyo 44610-12410 ) bolts on at about 35 degrees in a vertical plane. Both are 13/16. As I said previously, I have never had problems with rear lock ups. I think I will be leaving everything alone.

Im 99% sure that first pic is the early 2 piece prop valve for jdm disc rear, it looks identical to all i have seen . Ill take a educated guess and say the second pic is of the later model single piece prop valve also for jdm disc rear.

    theres some pics here-

Thanks mr2gze. Extensively discussed in that post also started by Tom86. I note the post towards the end has a scanned page from the parts catalog which includes the proportioning valve part numbers for which I appropriate here (sorry Toysprinta)

Also the schematics for the braking system

Well worth reading the post http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/fo...rtioning+valve

if you can put up with all the usual crap and heresay.

So I suppose in summary, what it looks like is less important than what is actually inside.

The one I got in my car now is totally different to both pictures posted by parrot. It could be true that the newer ie 1985 model onward has a different valve fitted to them. My car is a late 1983 model but was registered in 1984.

Anyway I've just printed out the scanned page, which i will take with me to my local Toyota dealer on the weekend hopefully they can help me out. I hope they're not rediculously expensive like most toyota spares.

While I'm on the topic of toyota parts guess how much a replacement steering wheel cost for a Lexus GS300... My friend overseas asked me to get one for him.

    Holy @#$%!

You probably already know this but just in case, that part number page is for the USDM car. SR5 is drum rear and GTS disc rear.

I put in my order for a new Bias valve this morning. Cost me $156 I hope its the right one as I got them to check and double check to make sure that its for a rear disc ae86.

The part numbers is totally different to that american GTS numbers on the net. Here is the real part numbers if anyone else want one

    Good stuff Tom86.

Now you can post a pic when it comes in and see what yours looks like. I dont suppose they told you what production month/years that part number was for?

I like to add that the part number quoted is for rear proportioning valve only. The front is apparently just a T-piece with no valving inside and it is exactly the same as the one on Aus spec Sprinter.

Like I say before my original valve is a once piece item and this rear valve that I just received is from a two piece type. You reckon I could just run the front brake with the original valve with inlet and outlet of the rear valve blocked and run the rear brake on the new valve.

I think it should work what do you think?

I reckon I would get the T piece from another AE86 if you can find one, or possibly an AE71? and use that for the fronts, seeing as it simply splits one line to go to each side of the front. Or probably pick up a generic T peice up at any brake place. Then plumb your rears through the new valve. Less messy and probably minimal if any cost.

Yeah I think that should work fine. Or even goto perth brake parts or any brake shop, and get a t piece with ends to suit, to get rid of the aus prop valve completely, I doubt it would cost much.

    Cheers

Yeah thats the other option i'm thinking of. I probably get the generic T piece cos the genuine Toyota on would probably cost me $100+ again and 4 weeks wait.

One thing I forgot to ask while I was at Toyota is if the Aus and Jap brake master cylinder are the same. I have a feeling that they might not be internally as I been looking into this brakes and things and found THIS It talks about a residual pressure valve i.e disc brake use 2psi and drum use 10psi .

Now, the guy at the brake shop was telling me that newer car have them built in to the master cylinder. So I'm wondering if the one on
AE86 have them or not, because if they do the pressure to the rear won't be right. The more I look into this the more problem i find

Other than the above regarding bolt patterns to the booster, I can't believe there is any internal valving difference. Takai will probably know as he seems to have mucked around with a few master cylinders.
