I would also delete most of those gauges - quite simply, you're not going to read them while in the thick of racing/competition. If you want to know about that stuff, datalog it - either via the ECU (if it'll support and log those sensors) or via a datalogger that also captures ECU data.
fwiw, this is the kind of instrumentation I'd like to have in my soarer:
- tacho (already in cluster)
- speedo (already in cluster)
- oil pressure (gauge already in cluster)
- coolant temp (already in cluster)
- High beam (already in cluster)
- indicators (already in cluster)
- alt light (already in cluster)
- brake fail (low fluid in MC reservoir - already in cluster)
- low oil pressure light (huge lamp where the radio was)
- blown fuse indicator lights (LEDs) underneath fuses
- fuel pump on (LED next/above manual/auto switch for pump control)
would be nice:
- low fluid in radiator or overflow bottle (a temp gauge no good if you have no coolant left)
- voltage
- shift light (above cluster - will come if/when I change ECU to megasquirt)
edit: go look at some of the rally in-car footage from ARC/WRC teams - driver just gets a shift light & gear indicator. Other important stuff is either lights in the centre console or on a small display that the Nav can see.
