Might be the oil pump at the front of the box, what the torque convertor connects to with the two tangs
Hi all, have this knocking sound coming from torque converter. I think it has got worse over maybe 1.5 years...
Mechanic checked the bolts, they were tight. Wondering what can cause the noise.
Makes noise in park and neutral, not as bad. When in gear and stationary very loud knocking noise..
Any idea what the actual problem could be without taking it out at the moment? Anyone experienced same thing with these cars?
I know majority of your feedback will be to replace with 1JZ, but dont have funds for that at the moment, plus other than this noise engine is rock solid

Would you say that's the only thing it can be given the bolts are tight and flex plate not damaged?
Well unless the torque convertor is internally damaged, its one of those things that need to be dismantled and inspected, luckily for you 7m a340e autos aren't that hard to come across

bummer... is it possible to diagnose if its oil pump without taking things appart? any other tips from anyone before i take it out?
We had a similar problem on our car that we were told was a spun bearing that turned out to be a crack in the flex plate. Once you put load on it, it distorted making the sound louder. Sounds like your issue
