    Default Upgrading internal fuel pump?

I've never had to do this before, but I'm trying to find someone who can help me with upgrading an internal type fuel pump. And Google has been no help.

It currently has a round plastic clip which fits onto a bracket moulded into the plastic tank.

What kind of info do I need to do this research better?

The reason I'm asking is I'm going from a 1.5L to a 2.0L which has about 50% more power, with a possible upgrade to a 2.0L turbo down the track (so maybe another 50-60% on top of that again). 70kW - 160kW is a pretty big jump.

I really want to avoid an external swirl pot & pump as the car is a hatchback & gets driven on dirt occasionally (and the only spare space underneath is behind the rear wheels).

edit: found some info (just part numbers). Fuel pump from 1.5L 4 cylinder DOHC (FE type head) is the same part number as from 3.0L V6 & is the same as for the 2.0L NA I'm currently installing.

Is this normal to have so much headroom? Or is it just economics that they couldn't be bothered finding a smaller pump?

    normal for a cheap manufacturer/brand.
    Walbros come in only 3(?) flavours. 180, 255 and 255 high-pressure? maybe 4..

    yeah, pretty normal.

All you need to worry about for internal installation is that it seats as low down as you can get - and depending on the factory fuel mount, using some efi hose cut in half to avoid vibrations (esp for noisy aftermarket pumps).

sounds like it's all a non-issue though, which is great news

    Thanks, give me some options.

Found out that the GT4 Celica has a similar sized pump, so should be able to get something to suit that with enough flow.

Now I've just got to see if the engine I want will fit the gearbox, after that I might even be able to keep up with you down the straight at Wakefield...

Could I check them out as a comparison when you do?
Don't need them just yet for the NA 2L, as my existing is already big enough apparently.
And I'm not going to know whether the turbo engine will fit till I pull the & engine & box back out of the "dummy" car so that I can check the box's bellhousing.

I may need a slightly physically smaller one, as I have may found a way to convert the car to returnless (to match the engine), just need to see what hardware changes might be needed (if necessary), and how that car is plumbed up.
But should still be doable as that's similar to the ZZT VVTLi Celicas. Should be something available to suit that.

    38mm diameter
body length 68mm (vs 75mm for the Celica)
    112mm long overall

Time for another couple of hours pulling cars apart at the wreckers.
