    Default Gen3 1ggte exhaust sensor and wiring

    Exhaust temp sensor brown black wire in green white stripe out
    At least that's what the wiring diagram says. Doesn't seem to match the loom though. Questions are then;
    Anyone seen other colours for the exhaust sensor?
    What are the costs/benefits of not using this?

    Wiring colours change all the time, I personally don't follow wire colours (I trace back from the engine ecu plugs / etc).

    99% of people don't wire up the exhaust gas temp sensor in engine conversions (without apparent ill effect). I can't tell you the exact effect the exhaust gas temp sensor has in the engine control, but I suspect it must be minor.

    Thanks wilbo
    The trace back method is what we are doing but I didn't think it would hurt to throw it out there.

    Already got a box full of stuff cut off the loom, like to add this.

    So from what I've been able to read, egt is an early means of monitoring afr's.
    What will be the consequences of the ecu not getting a temp signal?
    Leaning out?
    Over fueling?
    Part of me is of the mind that it must serve some purpose of the bean counters would have left it out.

    I think the EGT light (and thus sensor) was toyota's way of telling you the cat was either stuffed or way too hot. It would also be used to indicate if the CAT was cold - and thus the ECU wouldn't go into close-loop ARF control.

    On further reflection, even if it has a function for engine management, this is useless for an aftermarket exhaust system since any settings in the ecu would be based on factory exhaust readings.
    Thanks guys, gone and gone.
