wiring will take u a day if u know what to do or
afew days to a week or do on and off if u don't know what to do
*dnegative* have you done this conversion before ?? does the motor slot straight in no different mounts required ??
*george* what are the most common troubles im going to run into ??
i see what exhaust i shoulld run, is wiring the JZ into the X83 be the hard part ??

Nope, but I purchased everything bar the engine to do it so I knew what I was up for
Dropping a 1JZ-GE in is just as hard as refitting the 7MGE, hardest task is the wiring (chop plugs off engine and body looms and splice together going off the wiring diagrams) and triggering the fuel pump. Your probably going to need a few hoses here and there and maybe a PS line but that shit is straight forward.
Use JZX81 engine mounts, direct fit if you have a S2 MX83. If not, some dude on TC.net sells them for both versions $150.
1jz-chriseda , wiring may be a bit tricky depending on your particular engine
In JZX100 for example, some sensor wires don't run directly to ECU connectors but go thru body loom instead (ACIS valve, oxy sensor heater confirming signal, neutral start switch and some others) so it's not enough just to put +12V here and there (however these wires are not vital).
With engine not installed yet you may consider replacing some things like timing and accessory belts. Highly recommend replacing acc. belt tensioner pulley or at least its bearing. Check that oil sump is not bent and does not interfere with oil pump inlet. Check that all connectors fit to your gearbox. Before first firing it check oil levels. If yours is vvti engine, check that intake cam gear is not leaking. The rest is pretty straightforward to my experience

Engine conversion is when you drive a shitbox which costs a whole LEXUS to own
i got a vvt-i engine from a chaser jzx100... if that can clarify anything for you george.
im not going to replace much on the motor as it only had 20,000kms on it, and everything looks very fresh, etc.
cam gears not leaking just checked it then, bought a front sump off a mate and its very straight and clean, so atm its all looking very good.
how do you know what wires mate with what wires ?? like body plugs on engine plugs, and if they dont connect do i strip the wires off and solder them into the plug ?? cheers for help lads.
Not much will connect straight forward
Even to explain it all to u will take days and weeks on the phone or here
Find the diagrams and study them heaps if u haven't doNe this type of stuff
It can be done just depends how nice u want it will determine how long u take
I've done a million cressys and it takes a day to make it all nice and everything to work and if u get issues then takes two days
So all I can suggest is study the diags and see which wires do what and cut and solder corresponding wires
Not many wires can swap over without cutting and soldering so stock up on solder and heat shrink
U also need to lengthen alternator wires from one side to the other
thats where i get confused, this is my first wiring conversion, so im expecting it to take atlleast 2 weeks, where do i find these diagrams. myabe link me one to help out to get a heads start ? cheers
I usually look at wiring diagram to see which wires go thru junction blocks or some additional connectors/splice points and the like. Trace them from appropriate sensor, valve, switch etc... down to some connector. Then cut from the connector and connect where it should finally go, for example ECU terminal.
It's also helpful to check devices connected this way when you think everything's done. For example, to check for ACIS functionality you floor the car at P or N. For the fractions of second when accelerator is depressed and RPM is between 4000 and 6300 (cutoff) you should see ACIS linkage moving.
Another common problem is error code 21 appearing in similar conditions, it relates to heater circuit confirming signal and surprisingly neutral start switch signal
