    Default Wastegate Positioning

    Hey Guys,

Due to a stuff up in specifying my new exhaust manifold i need to consider options to make the wastegate fit.

Is there any issues with running the wastegate somewhat further away from the manifold?

atm it has a very small stub that leaves the (rather large) tial wastegate fouling the bonnet, so was thinking on extending the stub to locate the wastegate somewhere more suitable.

As far as i understand, if it is easier for the exhaust to go through the wastegate then there is no problem.

    Cheers
    Nathan

    Hi there,
I can't see a problem with the concept.
There are plenty of examples of big name manifolds with the wastegate on the end of a 'runner' lenth extension to avoid fouling things.
Like you state if the passage to the wastegate provides no further restrictions then all is well.

    Cheers,

mount it on the rear housing?

this method is used a lot for 6Boost manifolds due to them scavenging so well, thus this is needed to help eliminate boost creep and spikes.

    eg:

    1971 Ford Capri GT -- 624rwhp at 25psi ... 1000kg race weight ... 4L with T51

I was advised the important thing was to have the WG coming off the collector at as shallow an angle as possible, and upto 12" long would be fine.

I ran mine off at about 30º to the main exhaust flow, it is also a twin-scroll, so kept it divided upto the valve, so kept it short.
