Default Bigger dump pipe for 1ggte?

Well, the 23 is finally up on the hoist and work is underway.

Mechanic has suggested that while we are tidying up all the things previously done to the car and which are offensive in the eyes of god, that I could/should go with a slightly bigger exhaust all the way through and that I should seriously consider a bigger dump while we have engine out and car on hoist.

The engine is a std gen 3 1ggte with the factory twins.

Firstly, anyone got any views on the need/advantages of bigger pipes on a standard engine.

Secondly, anyone got a lead on a person in the ACT/NSW area who can contrive such a beast?

    Cheers

If anyone suggests installing that most heinous of contraptions called the 'cannon' (and for the love of mike never refer to one of these as a muffler) stab them with your silver cross and spray them in garlic paste just to be sure...

Great to hear this car is getting some love!

Nope, cannon is in no way "canon" IMO.

It's taken a while to get moving, but seems to have some momentum now. I'll update my thread soon.

Any views on the dump pipes? I know you've got the punching well above your weight 3t, so come on, dish out some FI god knowledge.

yes, they make a huge difference, stock boost stock dumps and 450x300 IC = 110rwkw, with dumps (road runner fab) was 140rwkw, this was also with a 3 inch exhaust all the way back and high flow cat.

as to getting them made up now, would be a custom job mate nobody has made them for years, roadrunner used to do them about 5 years ago.

I also have some upper IC ping to give you as well

Master I've got absolutely no idea on how the stock 1G twins are mounted or work so I'll let the likes of Kedderz advice stand on the dump pipe situation!

I'd definatly go a 3 inch pipe from the turbo's back with decent cat of same input/output and a straight through racing muffler. Muffler here means something designed to remove noise not add clanging cymbols of course. With the tiny stock twins on board the muffler will not have too much work to do anyhow as turbo's are one of the most efficient noise reduction devices ever created!

If you have 3 inch out back of the turbo's make sure there is nothing more restrictive in front of them. The air behind the turbos is moving under pressure so you will want considerably larger diameter piping available between the turbo intake and air filter to avoid the turbo's creating a high vacuum as this is not healthy for them. Said air filter itself needs to be free flowing too of course.

    Update your thread already!!!

Well, looks like I'll need to ring around and see who can do the work.

Will check the pipe size on the intake side too.

    Advice is much appreciated.

Updates when there is something a bit more obvious to show for it.

I'll get some shots of how the tailshaft/engine etc was done up with significant weight savings in mind (ie not all the bolts/brackets.)

Kedderz, there is a fuel cell all bagged up in my garage for you.

My thanks to you (and the Toyman), this is a big help. Give me something to show to the poor bugger (or rich bugger) who will make some up for me.
