Default EFI fuel tank options for KE70.... does RT142 fit?

OK, i've been doing my searchwork and googles on what i can do in terms of in-tank pump setup for EFI in my KE70.
I already own a Walbro 255L/min pump, which is left over from a previous project, and is partly why I'm looking at in-tank rather than external surge tank, etc.

In my searches ive read some posts saying that an RT142 fuel tank fits into AE86/AE71.... but ive only read it on like 3 posts rollaclub forums, and they didnt seem that convincing.
Here is one post in this thread about it - http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic...-correct-pump/
This guy says a couple of mods are needed - anyone know what mods?
has anyone ACTUALLY attemped fitting an RT142 tank, or successfully fit it?

I did find one post on toymods from some years ago saying that RT142 does NOT fit into AE86...... see here http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/sho...l=1#post351156

    So im confused.

If you didnt know, the RT142 tank is already EFI, with baffling.
It also is the same as RA65 fuel tank, and also fits into RA60 and RA40.

    All help is greatly appreciated.

NOTE: I am open to modifying the stock KE70 tank to add baffles, etc, but would prefer a cheaper solution if i can find it.
Going the surge tank route will be quite expensive, as my engineer has requested i use pushlock or braided line (speedflow type) fittings if i fit a surge tank setup.

I also posted this thread on rollaclub forums.... and got the answer i needed.

RT142 tank DOES NOT fit into an AE71/KE70/AE86.
The tanks look very similar, but the RT142 tank is just that little bit different, and also larger than the KE70 tank.

So, looks like im in the market for a JDM EFI AE86 fuel tank, or i get the KE70 tank modified, or i deal with a surge tank.

Using a JDM efi AE86 tank isn't too difficult, just need to swap the filler necks over and fiddle with the overflow setup for memory.

    edit: thread on ae86DC - http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/fo...dash-sender%29

On another note, why are you avoiding going for a surge tank? It would be a much easier process to just drop a VL/intank fuel pump, and run a simple setup in the boot...unless money is a factor? I would rather rely on a surge tank then a couple of baffles. If you plan to mod the baffles in the 86 tank then that's a different story..

Finding the jdm AE86 tank is the hard part dude.
    Hens teeth.

I'm now looking at either modding the ke70 tank or maybe looking at an S13 tank.... Found some I.fo from the states that they sorta fit.

Avoiding the surge tank cos my engineer has required I use pushlock or braided fittings.... Expensive!!!

That is your issue 40mm opening for you to fit the pump in... Its pretty simple to cut the original ke pickup so the pump sits flush on the bottom of the tank. FWIW an ae82 pump won't fit inside a ke70 tank, but will in an ae86. Pretty sure an ae71 tank has the larger opening. Also brace your pump so it doesn't spit off whilst driving.

That pump above was a bosch one i used which barely fit, i had to bend the strainer to squeeze it in, then flatten it again via the fuel sender hole.

I was super anal and didn't want my +ve wire arching out on anything so i ran it inside spare efi hose i had.

That's some more helpful info.... Cheers!!

Oh, the AE71 tank I'm pretty sure does not fit the AE82 pump thru the hole, I've helped someone fail at that one many years ago from memory.

nah its all good Mr Poo.
Im going to just modify the KE70 tank now instead..... i think its more sensible, bolts in perfectly, and retains the p00 KE70ness.

If you just drop an EFI pump into the KE70 tank, wont you get real bad fuel surge as there is not the baffeled bowl in there that the EFI tanks have?

I very occaisionally get some surge when coming outta corners with the loud peddle to the floor and I have about 2L of fuel left in the tank

You could use any efi tank to cut the sender out, i thought about that but it was far easier to just get a pump that fitted. Adding the baffles shouldn't be that difficult either.

Karl if you want a ae92 tank that is missing the pump, but has the fuel pickups + baffel i have one you can have for free.
