Yesterday was bloody cold but a few of us braved the weather to visit a couple of Sydneys lost racetracks.
It was a quiet affair with Rod, Simon and myself in attendance. We hung around for a little while but I guess the lure of a warm bed early in the morning kept the crowds at home.
The day started at Paramatta Park, one of Sydneys very lost race tracks. With only board members in attendance, we decided to change the flavour of the day and shy away from Katoombas icey winter and make this a local cruise, taking the opportunity to take some nice pics of the three classics.
First stop was Old Government House in Paramatta park.
We then did a hot lap of the historic Paramatta park race track, making a pit stop at this rather cool tunnel
Then we decided to make a run down windsor road and see whats left of Amaroo Park Raceway. But on the way we had to make a stop outside Paramatta Gaol for a quick pic or 20.
Then off to Amaroo. There isn't much of the old track, it's all semi rural housing now, though we did find where the old track would have been, the lakes and general topology hasn't changed but the track is completely gone. It did bring back a heap of memories though of Dad taking us out to the track for a boys day at the races. All thats left of the track now is the old entrance.
After that we headed down the road to the Aussie Brewrey for an awesome lunch and a lot of chat.
For those that missed it, it was a great day, you should have been there.
For those that made it, I'll post a heap of pics in your rides threads soon.
