    Default Running a modified sump

    Gday all,

My is200 converted to 1jz vvti is running a cut and shut sump to clear the crossmember. It has a reduced oil capacity of 4L. Questions:

    1. What are the effects of this? Higher oil temps due to lower heat capacity? Any risks to lubrication?
    2. Is fitting an oil cooler kit a good solution to increase oil capacity and extra cooling?

    Thanks for your help.

more oil capacity is never a bad thing. considering you have less than standard oil capacity, and probably have a few mods on the motor, if it was me, i'd be fitting an oil cooler.

Ulimately it depends on how much capacity you have lost...

I doubt you'd have a massive problem , fit an oil temp gauge for peace of mind and be religous on your oil change frequency or lower it slightly. But for the cost of an oil cooler it is probably worth adding either way.

is the sump back on the motor / in the car already ?

it will be fine, providing there is room for oil to "collect" around the oil pump pickup .... if the sump is still off, make some baffles and gates in the sump.... bit more protection if pushing higher power / doing some trackwork in future

    Yeah sump is installed already.

The oil pickup location shouldnt have any issues to pickup oil.

    Lost capacity is 0.8L.

Thanks for the advice guys ill be getting an oil cooler for track work.

I'd personally go a decent size cooler, try to regain as much of that lost capacity as you can.
