Default Who repairs stuffed capacitors in 1JZ's and 2Jz's here in Aus?

My 94 crown isn't running the best, rich bad idle etc etc, extensive investigating online leads me to the old leaking Cap scenario, (and if they aren't the cause they soon will be). So far have tracked down a joint in the US

    http://store.driftmotion.com/dynamic/searchresults.php

$80 and they are very familiar with the issue, i'll have to send it to the states tho, anyone local? I'm not experienced with doing a job like this myself, and like the idea that they have done a shit load of these cap repairs. I'm in Sydney anyone know of a place here that knows these well and does a good job>?

    Cheers

Hmmm decided NOT to send the ECU to the guy in the us to fix (at the above link) after reading this:

    http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...fire-runs-rich.

Surely someone good here in AUS? even someone who has done this before and knows there way around the issue - wiling to pay fair coin for a proper job.

thanks for that, I have sent him a pm, however a check of his profile says he hasn't posted on this site for 4 years?

Anyway have come across someone else here in Sydney guy named Anthony Pazin

    http://www.autoelectronics.com.au/gpage5.html

very good service from what I have gleaned from the net from people who have dealt with him.

ive done about 15 but prob only 50% chance of them working again,
theres 5 or 6 capacitors and sometimes replacing them all doesnt always fix the issue,
ive got about 1000 capacitors in a big box as i buy 100 at a time from special supplier for each value i need
so now i replace them all regardless as some ecus have a 2nd board on top so u need to get that capacitor aswell

if u do get it done by a professional shop its usually expensive so make sure u ask that will it defenately fix the issue
and do they garantee them and test the ecus too

I've done stacks, from all sorts of Toyotas, I've had a hit rate of over 80%, but most of those others turned out to be other underlying issues anyway that weren't so apparent with the stuffed ECU.
I always make sure to replace all electrolytic capacitors, and repair any damage caused by the leaking fluid, including replacing other components if needed.

    ok cool
good to know most of the time its other issues
i dont have enough crap here to replace other shit other than capcitors
so if i get any with major damage i know where to send em to

Not trying to take away from you guys, cause I'm sure what you do is good too, but if you want to send it to a shop with waranty and they test the ecu too. Sure it will be more expensive, but sometimes that is what people want. For any efi/ecu work through work we use AIE at slacks creek/springwood in Qld. Their phone number is 1300 555 422. Just another option, thats all.

yes its good to get warranty but what i found is that it is sometimes hard for them to
    test japanese import motor ecus.
these places are very good with aussie ecus but some jap ones where they dont have the pinouts
or circuit board diagrams it makes it hard
thats y i say to make sure u ask them before they start the job they have they done them before
and can they test them afterwards

i have dealt with brendan from AIE in qld past few times

and australian efi solutions or AFI are 2 places in sydney if u want to trh them

Didn't even think of the import problems, not thinking too clearly about it all i guess.

Guys won't you share some kinda personal statistics - at what age the caps are most likely to fail?
So far I did wiring for ~20 cars at my mate's workshop including 1/2jz-ge/gte,1uz vvti and not, 5vz-fe. They were all 1998 or newer. I haven't ever had any problems regarding ECU's. Though I always open em and in some cases there are apparent traces of excessive humidity or even dirt or something else.

I have found anything from late 90's and earlier is stuffed. Any Toyota ECU (not looked into other manufacturers ECU's much) including Corolla, Sera, MR2, Starlet, Supra/Chaser/etc(!!!! these are often BAD), etc, etc, all needed replacements. Only a few I've ever looked at looked good with no leakage, but when the caps were removed and actually tested, they were dry and in need of replacement.

Thanks, very interesting info! How did you test them? Checked for leakage current at some fixed voltage? Or measured discharge time thru fixed resistance or somethig else? I've got some ECU's with their processors stuffed but everything looking ok, wish to check out how bad they are. I'll then consider the results as typical for my area )
