The 2T bearings that I have gotten in the past (NDC) are actually wider.

I wondered if the hole position had changed as a result of a "more accurate" squirt of oil on the bore, which may or may not have changed as a result of the rotational position of the corresponding hole in the crank pin.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

FYI, took my eagle rods to just about every place imaginable in the greater Brisbane area.
Not one would drill the hole into the rods. They said the material was very hard and would risk breaking/damaging their drill.

I was equipped with Yellow Rolla's info, but still they all refused

    Steeko,

I have assembled quite a few of these without drilling them. I talked to a couple of people to get their input on this before assembling some and I relied on their feedback. Both of the people that I spoke to agreed that drilling the rods was unnecessary, it was preferred though.

Sorry if you were led astray by my thoughts and writings on this subject.

I email eagle about this, this is their response below. I have installed mine without the hole and went for went for the wider 2t bearings.

    Roger,
The oil hole you mention is not necessary and can compromise the strength of the rod. It is a stress-concentration point and and excellent place for stress fractures to start from. Plenty of oil is sprayed on the cylinders by the escaping oil at the side clearance area of the rod.

    Thanks for your business!

Subject: 3tc con rod - big end oil hole?

    Hi,

I recently received my eagle con rods which look nice and shinny and am very happy with them, When I compare them to my stock rods however I notice the stock rod has a small hole in the big end that corresponds with a big end bearing hole. I assume this hole is to shoot oil onto the cylinder wall/piston.

So I now have a couple of questions,

Should I consider drilling this hole in? What are the advantages of not having this hole?

Any guidance you can provide is much appreciated

    Roger

Apologies for digging up an old thread, but it helped me today, and I have a contribution.

Apparently the reason for the different angle on the oil hole in the rod is piston cooling (as opposed to cylinder wall lubrication).

    Further update:
I received my rods (from Summit Racing), and they seem to be the ticket.

    Just one note:
Eagle lists big end size by Journal Diameter (1.8890 in. (47.9806 mm)), and Summit Racing has (mistakenly?) listed this as the big end bore diameter.
My rods measure up at 51 mm/22 mm, just as they ought to.
