FWIW T292 is a 4.1 T series single spinner, If your speedo is accurate it definately wouldnt be doing those revs at 100kmh, so either youre going faster than you think (ie speedo out) or youve got yourself a 4.6 or similar

the gearbox is in the car, so i dont think i will be dropping it out unless i need to change the clutch. i will get some pics.

well in my old car it worked like this 3000rpm in 5th is 100kmph, 3000rpm in 4th is about 80kmph and 3000 rpm in 3rd is about 60kmph, if i use that same principal my speedo is perfectly right, but i need to pull out my speedo today to replace it so will see wat happens with a diffrent speedo i guess.

im guessing the t292 is also the diff from the auto ta22, is this right??

are you counting one wheel or both? they have to turn together to get an accurate ratio.

4000rpm @ 100 in 5th gear? Not with that ratio...

my dad was watching one wheel while i was turning the tail shaft, just to test my theory on the counting concept i turned the tail shaft exactly 3 times and the wheel turned exactly once, (mayb a few mm each way from my worn universal joints) but yer. was very close, how would i calculate how fast 3000rpm woudl be in 5th gear on a w56 and with a 3.4:1 ratio diff??

um try some 195/60's or 15/195/50s.

Pretty sure 14/185/50's are way smaller than stock

What speed does the car do in 4th gear?and what does it do in 5th?it depends on what you are looking for,low down grunt mid range or top end power?
    Cheers Brett.

4th gear will go up to about 120-130 5th will go to what i assume is 140-150. what i am after is a good 0-100 and an ok top speed. i guess i will just stay on the look out for a w55/57/58 or a auto from the same model cars, but i dont think going back to auto is going to viable. im going to jack up one wheel and do the counting thing again to see wat the ratio comes out at this time.

you should also do a road-speed test with a newish car that has an accurate speedo. Your speedo could be way out

Just for reference sake, my TA22 did about 3500rpm at 100kms with T50 gearbox and standard diff (I believe is 4.1:1 or something) and was running 215/60R14 tyres... It sounds like you have that ratio diff in your car, but I am not sure how you gearbox would differ. It all depends what you are after, I thought I wanted a better top speed, but now dont because I wanna be quick off the lights. I dont care much about going over say 130km/hr becuase once you are 40kph over the speed limit, cops take your licence no matter how many points you have. So I dont see the point in taking it faster than this on the road. But if you wanna take it down the strip, you would want quick off the line but a reasonable top speed.... hope this helps you figure it out Good Luck

yer i was planning on geting a proper speedo test done on the dyno or beside my moms car(01 camry). i just counted the revolutions with only one wheel jacked up, 20 tail shaft 10 wheel, so thats 2:1, now that sounds really rong. i dont know what is going on. i will just leave it how it is and get it tuned and hope for the best.

    thanks for all the help
