Default Wire colours for auto trans solenoids

Hi guys, after many fruitless hours of web search, I have come back to the realm of Toymods for some definitive answers.

I need to temporarily use a 4 speed auto , but wish to retain the ability to fit the 5 speed at a later date. I have a partial loom and can graft the solenoid part of the wiring harness's to each other, and just leave one plug hanging in the breeze, so to speak.

The only difference in the wiring is on the solenoid side of the box.

The 4 speed A340e/30-40ls use a loom with an 8 pin connector plug.

The 5 speed 35-50ls uses a loom with a 10 pin connector plug.

What I need to know is the wire colours for each of the solenoids ie. what wires go to each solenoid.

I would anticipate some rather strange shifting patterns if I get the wires mixed up.

Any help will be much appreciated,

    cheers Chuck.

Do u mean 5 speed auto
If the engine ecu is for a four speed I doubt it will be
Able to control a 5 speed auto because 4 speeds use 2 shift solenoids
And 5 speeds have 3 shift solenoids
    And u can't interchange
Also there's a million different 4 speed wiring so there's heaps of diff colours
U haven't even said what car the engine loom is out off
I could say pink colour does reverse and yellow does 1st and it will fk u up
If u have different model car
U need to run the auto to suit yr engine ecu unless u plan to go aftermarket auto ecu
The info is out there if u find. Orect model workshop manual

    Thanks for the reply mate,

The engine and trans package I intended to use is from a GS300, naturally the factory ecu will control the 5 speed auto (35-50ls) that came from that car.

The need to use a 4 speed box arises due to some damage to the 5 speed box which will take some time to repair, the intention is to fit that auto down the track some time, but I want to get the old girl going asap. I have a choice of 4 speeds one from a JZZ30 Soarer, and one from a JZS151 Crown. Yeah lots different wire colours, I simply need some sort of starting point with the wires before I call on my auto electrician and ask a million bumb questions.

As to your last point about the info being out there, yes you are probably correct, finding it has been a pain in the rectum, even the GS300 diagram links in the Toymods thread on wiring diagrams shunts me off to some hijacked website which has zero to do with cars. There are free downloads of wiring diagrams available when you supply credit card details etc.! The web is such a pain in the arse at times with so many scammers and hijackers out there.

    cheers Chuck.

web ios not a pain in the ass
just some wont spend 10 ro 20 bucks getting info heheh
tell yr auto elect to research just like the rest of us heheheheheeh
if he doesnt understand then he isnt a good auto elect hehehe
i never supply credit cards only paypal where u can report them

anyway are u perfectly sure the engine ecu will drive a 4 speed
did u not read where i mentioned about the 4 speeds run less solenoids than the 5 speeds
and the workings of the solenoids are differnet

have u checked that when sol 1 and 2 is turned on for both 4 speeds and 5 speeds that u get 2nd gear
and when just sol 2 is on u just get 3rd gear for both boxes

dumbass, all of the boxes are currently sitting on the floor attached to engines, last things first, so no I cannot check what gear is selected when powering the solenoids.

I totally understand that they are very different boxes both mechanicly and electricly, for example the JZZ30 box has only 3 wirews to the solenoids. In this case the front solenoid is connected by a yellow wire to the inside rear pin of the 3 pin plug. The middle solenoid is connected by a white wire to the rear outer pin, and the rearmost solenoid is connected to the front pin by a black wire.

Without pulling the other boxes apart I have no way of knowing what the situation is in those boxes. With eight and ten wires respectively, there is a whole lot more going on in those later boxes than in the early A340e. eg the GS300 box is tiptronic, and I have a suspicion that the Crown box is also.

In the case of the GS300 35-50ls box the ecu will be looking to select an additional gear by firing off another solenoid or varying the combination of switched solenoids. With the 4 speed 30-40ls hooked up there will be a conflict, but nothing that should not be able to be overcome, it simply a matter of getting the solenoids energised at the correct time. A little help in the wiring colours and pinouts is all that is required.

If it is too difficult to wire the transmission to the ECU why not just rig it so you shift gears with the shifter? After all it is just temporary
