Hmmm. This could be bad - mine kinda stands out too (damn shouty rotaries). And will fail on a few things - one of which may be a little hard to get engineered. The really annoying bit is as I'm sitting there getting my extremely safe roadworthy car worked over how many super unsafe unmodified cars will go past with terminal rust, bald tyres, floppy poorly anchored seats and super tired smoky engines - with not a care given.

Guess it's time to look into getting mine engineered... Or buy a trailer...

I seem to be the NAH SAY boy of gloom and doom at present . But engineering is getting harder to get every day , also $$$$$$$ ( $1500 to $2000 ) And the trailer no rego route puts you in my area of pain . That is no rego , means no Motakhana's , skid pan days and now MARULEEN race track a no go without rego they tell me .

There's always the trailer AND rego option, if you're swimming in money

Marulan doesn't allow non-registered cars now... well that is quite gay!

The Driftegra isn't "modified" (except for a fulli hecktic pod filter), but I'm sure one of ACT's fine vehicle inspectors would have no trouble taking it off the road if they really wanted to.

It's a real shame, even when "motoring enthusiasts" like us try to do things properly (have unregistered race cars that are only used for events) it's still so hard, and as you've said, getting something properly engineered costs a lot of $$$, effort and if the new laws that are being rolled out in other states stay around and make it here it will become impossible.

I guess the answer is to go to the shrink/doctor and get the part of our brains that enjoys cars/motoring "fixed" or cut out!...

That would leave me brainless! Some would say that has already happened...

I'm interested. Need to figure out the CAMS licence.

Also, just realised that I've ordered Bridgestone RE11 for the MX-5 which aren't sold in Australia. Wonder if that will cause problems at scrutineering...

My guess is you won't have any issues as long as they seem like street legal tires. The point of the scrutineering is to ensure the cars are safe, not to try and dick people for illegal mods etc (that's the point of the cops/RTA which will be sitting outside if what airocobra has heard is true). This is all merely my opinion though, as everyone should know, I'm rather special in the head.

Just received a reply from the Sporting Secretary (at this hour!) and he says it's fine so I'm good to go.

I'll figure out a CAMS license and I'm in!

Nark, you can buy a day license on the day or alternatively join the mg car club and then buy your yearly cams license on the day. And cams will send it out in a couple of weeks.

yep they wont ping you for tyres unless the belts are hanging out (is fine if they hang out throughout the day, ask alwaysRA23 lol) They don't need to be street tyres either, slicks, rally tyres etc are all fine.

SO , lets get this right ---- Your car must be LEGAL ie REGOED , because unregoed means the car is dangerous etc etc . But it is all right to run bald ( non legal tyres ). OH!!! I am so not bitter and twisted about that !!!!!!!!!!

yep, as far as I'm aware that rule is ONLY to try and get cars that meet the sound restrictions (MGCCC events don't use sound credits). They freely admit that it's a retarded rule especially in the ACT where cars can have been many years without a rego check and rego doesn't equal quiet. But those are the requirements and they have to abide by them.

I was pretty sure Kent was going to go bananas when i popped a tyre last year.

No one seems to care when my rubber is trashed as long as it looks alright at scruitineering :-)
