Default 7AFE head gasket on stock 4AGE silvertop?

Ok, so I'm currently rebuilding my 4AGE silvertop to stock specs.
About the only mods I am looking at doing are short trumpets in stock box, 2.5" straight through exhaust, shift kit (auto box) and maybe the 7AFE headgasket.

So, my question is, can I just slap a 7AFE head gasket onto a stock silvertop? The head and block have only been skimmed to provide a fresh surface.

while the coolant flow is the same as a 20V engine they are only 0.4mm thick. On a 7afe they have a lower compression height to compensate. If you have already skimmed the block the distance will be even closer. While people seem to be getting away with it at times your really pushing your luck with the piston hitting the head.

I suggest reading on the 9000rpm forum about it more.

Yeah, I want to bump up the compression a bit, but wasn't sure if it would be too close.
I still have to get the pistons, so once they arrive I can take a measurement.
What is the minimum clearance I can run between the piston and head?

no idea, no one else seems to have any idea either. Apparently running a 0.5mm gasket will cause disaster but people have done it. A safer option would be a TRD 0.8 with one of the layers removed.

As a rough guide a 0.4mm gasket without the head and block surfacing will give you around 12.8:1, with what you have done over 13:1. With 98 octane fuel I would think a 0.8 gasket would surfice, that takes you to 11:1 and maybe 11.5 with the mods as a rough guess.

Yea, a TRD is probably the safest option.
I was hoping to do it cheap, but using a TRD gasket is fine by me and is known to work.

well people have doubled up 7afe gaskets before, that said a trd gasket is pretty cheap to buy.

I might be getting a bulk set in myself

you could always get the block decked a bit more, and then run the stock gasket.......... just another perspective

7afe head gasket is 0.7 mm thick not 0.4. They will work on your 4ag just fine. Have 2 7age 20v on 7afe gaskets running fine.

but isn't the deck height on a 7afe block +0.3mm in proportion?

I measured a gasket at 0.4mm but it wasn't genuine

Ended up getting a TRD gasket sent over from Bazda in NZ with a set of pistons too.
