    Default 1ggte error codes?

Hi guys, can someone tell me how to read the error codes for a 1ggte?

Ive just swapped in another 1g into my hilux and it has no power over 2000rpm and struggles to rev.
The turbos sound like they are spooling fine and I checked for boost leaks or missing vac lines.

I'm thinking it's either bad knock sensors or the timing way out?

I wanted to check the knock sensors first and I've read u need to read the error codes from the check engine light? I don't have a check engine light so I just put a test light in it's place but all it does is constantly flash?

constant flashing at high rate (more than once per second) indicates that your ECU sees no errors. Among other things this may mean some sensor is stuffed, so its reading is within the range but is barely related to what it should be.

When you can't see the problem from simply reading the codes your next step may be realtime parameter logging and comparing to that of good engine.

obd1 software and adapters are no fancy and you can easily arrange datalogging having only a laptop. Of course if you're not banned at Google. Unfortunately I'm not aware of such software with English interface.

put a timing light on it
or even just adjust the dizzy till the motor sounds nice and free revs nice and crisp
    then take for road test
if it still plays up then its not timing and maybe other issue
y did u replace the 1gg did the older one die because of some issue
and maybe the issue is still there with the new motor
might easily be blocked exhaust or intake
dont waste yr time on reading live data as by time u get scanner and shit it will take u ages
and u need to wire in the half round diagnostic plug

just try to figure if its a miss or if it just feels sluggish like u said and timing might be out

Yeah i was hoping to borrow a timing light and check that tonight, ill probably check the cam timing too as i swapped the timing belt before i put it in.

I didnt see anthing blocked in any of the inlets or exhaust when i was working on it so i dont think its that, also i can hear the turbos spool up properly.

It kind of revs fine in neutral but when driving it gets to about 2500rpm and has no power and wont rev out properly, i think i might have heard a little backfire too when trying to rev it out.

I had a quick look at it last night and pulled off the knock sensor lines but that didnt make any changes to the way it reved out in neutral. i didnt have a chance to drive it though.
When i stripped off my loom off the old engine i didnt see the knock sensors and i broke them pulling the loom out, i just hope i didnt damage the loom too.

The old engine sucked in some water in a deep mud rut and never ran the same, so thats why ive put this one in.

    ok cool
does it sort of hit 2500 rpm and stop suddenly
    might be air flow meter

Nah it just tapers off and seems to struggle more as i increase the rpm.

The afm used to work fine on the old engine too.

ok so its fueling issue not electrical issue most probably

just check no split hoses from air flow meter to intake
    or even hoses on intercooler
    or timing issue

Yeah it could be. I put a new china sard fuel reg on it with this engine so maybe that needs to be adjusted?

It puts out a bit of black smoke(unburnt fuel) when i rev it though so i assumed it was getting enough fuel, i Might try and chuck an 02 sensor in the exhaust and see if its leaning out or going way too rich?

    Cheers for the ideas mate

Nah i bought a wideband O2 sensor ages ago, just to chuck in the back of the exhaust and see what the air / fuel ratios are doing. To see if the fuel reg is putting too much or not enough fuel in it.

I have accidently unplugged the O2 sensor from the car before and it makes a big difference to the way it drives too. Makes it run pig rich

So it's not the timing, allthough I haven't been able to check if the cams are in sync yet. (will try and check that tomorow)

Also if I unplug the knock sensors would it run properly without them? ATM if I unplug them it makes no difference to the way it runs. Is that because they are stuffed or because they are fine???

Tinkered a bit with the fuel reg too and didn't get any results.
