Default Better (track day) drivers seat for AE92 Hatch

I'm after some advice regarding a better driver's seat for track days (and, to be honest, for any road trip longer than 1 hour) in the AE92. Even though I've had the seat runners extended to give an extra 50mm of rear travel I still get cramps / feel uncomfortable on any trip longer than 60-90min; a problem I don't have with the AE111 seats which, cheapish trim notwithstanding; are quite well bolstered & offer good lateral support.

The JDM seats in the FX look great but in actual fact are pretty crappy. You sit on them. not in them; and they are also too high for track days. My car has a sunroof & I have to crouch when wearing a helmet as it hits the headlining; which as you can imagine is bloody tiring.

    The options I'm considering are;

    1. AE92 Levin / Trueno seats (assume they have the same rails?). These seemed quite comfortable but I guess are getting long in the tooth so would be hard to find in good nick.
    2. AE111 Levin seats. These are a known quantity & easier to source. (can you fit AE92 seat rails onto these?)
    3. Aftermarket Fixed / Reclining race seats + low* AE92 seat rails (would I need a boss extension on the steering wheel to maintain reach?)

    * Have heard of a brand called Wisteria. Are there any others?

    Comments / thoughts welcome. . .

bride, recaro, etc. i would get a recliner if you want comfort on long trips. although a good quality fixed back will be suitable depending on your level of tolerance. im happier driving 2hrs to goulburn in my velo fixed back seat than i ever was in my stock aw11 seat in any case...

Looks like your trying to kill two birds with a good firm track seat and a comfy lounge for long trips.

My AE92 FX-GT track car is fitted with a Sparco seat, adjutable rails and seat mount. There are so many options with seats, consider getting a fixed back race seat and mounting set up for the track and get someone to bolster up and pad you existing AE92 seat. You can swap them in a matter of minutes depending on your use.

As suggested, Bride, Recaro, OMP, Sparco, SAAS and many others are available in all shapes to suit most drivers.

You can try sitting in mine to see how it is done

Hello; another FX owner! that paint looks suspiciously pearlescent - did you buy that car off a guy in NW Sydney? I was going to buy that car - it was very good value - but just couldn't hack the paintjob.

When you said adjustable seat rails - do you mean height adjustable?

Did you get your seats / rail new or 2nd Hand. I've been looking on eBay / Brindabella for a used AE92seat+rail set but haven't scored anything yet.

In any case I wouldn't mind taking you up on your offer. What part of SYD are you in? < I'm in Sutho shire > Maybe this / next weekend?

Good luck with the track day, i'm sure a set of the ae92 levin seats would be nice but you can't go past a good quality Race Seat, when they mention "adjustable" it will usually mean that the seat can slide back and forth, while fixed rails will mean that the seat is fixed in that exact position, you will not have any adjustability to bring yourself further or closer to the steering wheel/pedals. Best of luck

keep this in your mind all those imported seats are NOT ADR Approved.
Some of Velo seats r ADR + FIA Approved. just in case if got pull-over.... (if u gonna cruise around it's better get a Eng cerft for rails )

(Don't knw much abt NSW rules but in VIC it's a BIATCH)

IF you gonna spend good money on a race seat it's best to go and test it by ur self rather than buy stuff from online ect. cause end of the day you the only one who sits there so everyone is different .. totally depends on you height , body shape so on .
so go to shops which selling those seats and sit and c , it's best if you can try some in the car (if possible )

velo seats are adr approved. you just need to engineer the rails (or get ADR rails..)

agree with Velo GP90 as an option that is ADR approved and comfortable (having done 10hrs in 2 days in one).

Great on the road, great at the track... depending on budget

GP90 is not FIA Approved ; before you buy make sure it pass all class regulation and stuff if you going to participate in any events

Podium II is ADR + FIA.

Velo also have a GP90/FIA seat. It's a few dollars more than the standard GP90 but is very comfortable and FIA approved (obviously). I've used it it both my race cars, and I'm 6.1" and 90Kg.

    Cheers,

FYI, even if it has an ADR approval label it doesnt mean you can necessarilly fit it yourself. Technically it should still be engineered as its a seating modification, especially if the seat belt anchorage is changed at all, as seats and seatbelts are covered by two completely different ADR's.

I find the older style recaros quite comfy and supportive. I think you can still buy them new through idealseat. The recaro expert and specialist style are reasonable reclining seats. I dont really like the newer sr series seats, an sr3 is the worst seat Ive ever owned.

yeah, GP-T is the ADR/FIA one (the one I have). You will still need engineering for the seat rails as mentioned
