you can buy a sandwitch plate that the oil filter will screw too.
these usually consist of several threaded holes that will allow you too run various gauges. if you get one with 2 holes you can also use a pressure gauge...
hey guys just wondering from other ppls experience where i a good place to mount the oil temp sender?? is there anywhere on the block i can screw it into??
does it need a flow of oil passing over it for best results??

big worm is on the money with having it submerced in oil all the time but i would steer clear of using it as a sump plug !!! the last thing you want is something to hit it and snap it off.
the ideal spot would be in the side of the sump. On of those sumps with the oil cooler thread in it could be used if your not using a cooler .

Boss in the side of the sump, the best way to go all around.

You could use a T where the oil pressure sender is, depending if you have an accessories bracket in the way (aircon and ps).
A T-piece in where the pressure sender is is a bad idea for two reasons.
Firstly the brass T-pieces tend to break off in the block due to vibrations when solid mounted.
Secondly if you remote mount the sender then the temp changes will take much much longer to get to the sender due to the need for thermal convection through a small amount of oil to get the reading. Its ok for temporary stuff, but long term it sucks hard.

I use the sump plug type but i question how accurate it may be having cold air flowing over the external part of the sender.
lol does a thermometer when atleast half is sticking out ones bum? lolOriginally Posted by cambelt1
if you have the money, get the sump off and get it or fit it on the side or front, so that the sensor sits up atleast 15mm+ from the bottom of the sump as the bottom of the sump has a bit of a cooling affect on the oil. putting in the sump plug hole scares the you know what out of me with lowered cars.
oil temp is a very good gauge for letting you know exactly what state the engine is in. it fluctuates far less than water temp etc.
dont put it anywere but the sump unless you have a dry sump tank!
Hmm if you have a full flow oilcooler setup I dont see anything wrong with having it inline there. Especailly considering how littler it fluctuates (when compared to water temp).
