Which Volvo Rear Axle for my RA29?

Thought I'd pull from you expienced guys on which rear axle to use?

I'm currently building an RA29 with the 1uzfe and it was suggested that the right fit should be a Volvo rear axle...which axle is best recommended? 240, 244, 740, 760?

Also I was told by a mechanic that if you spin the wheel in one direction, if the ajacent wheel spins in the same direction, it has limited diff...any truth to that?

All the models you list run essentially the same diff (a Dana 30). This is common to all 200, 700 and 900 series Volvos. There are of course some slight changes along the way, either being a 1030 or 1031 model, but strength and general conversion suitabilitywise they are the same. 200 series cars have a different mount setup than 7 and 900s, but that is irrelevant since you'll be chopping all that off.

A wide range of ratios and locker options are available aftermarket (esp. in America) since these diffs were used in the front of some Jeep 4WDs.

Thanks Guys...you guys are a great help...there isn't alot of information on these cars here in North America...which is why I frequent this site more than the rest....

I'm currently trying to decide on the idiocy of IRS over a live axle swap like a Volvo diff so I'm keen to hear and see how you go.

I believe the 700 and 900 series diffs are wider but still carry the same centre as the 200 series, hence a 200 series will be the best for you at 1400mm.
