Check the engine number on the block?
A guy has 1.8 3T engine for sale that I'm interested in, how can I tell if it's a 3T and not a 2T??
Check the engine number on the block?
Currently nursing a nice old celica back to good health
Where on the block are the numbers?
were the dip stick for the engine oil is follow it down to the block should be to the right of it towards the fire wall
and the dip stick is on the passenger side or right and side of the head if you are standing facing the car ... its the same on any t series motor they share the same block besides a few bits and peices
That 2T block looks like it has a 3T crank in it with 2T pistons?.. The piston crown is sticking out by what looks like 4mm.. 2T pistons & 3T pistons have a different gudgeon pin height to accommodate for the stroke difference, as they use the same length rods.
One way to check that it is 3T 1.8L & not 2T 1.6L is to put a long screw driver down the sparkplug hole so it rests on the piston top. Mark and measure the distance the screwdriver moves down from TDC to BDC. 70mm = 2T crank, 78mm = 3T crank. This is very useful if someone claims they have built a 3T and used a 2T block, as my 3TG build will have.
Is that the motor you are planning on buying??
Cheers, JB
