2JZ + standard auto, how many spacers on the flexplate?
Ive been having drama's with putting a standard a340 out of an aristo behind a 2jz in a cressida.
everytime i put the gearbox on it locks up after a few short turns. There is a spacer after the flexplate, should there be one before it aswell?

What locks up ? Have you got the torque converter properly aligned & sitting in its drive tangs into the Auto ..

torque converter has to lock into 2 splines and the oil pump drive
so u need to get it to click 3 times
so what is box from. 2 j motor and aristo 1 j box?
what do u mean turns
u should be able to slide bell housing till it touches motor
and still be able to spin converter freely by hand
if bell housing needs to be tightened by bolts then something is wrong
and don't tighten the bolts up otherwise u will bend flew plate
I've seen this afew times

there is a thick spacer on the crank before the flexplate goes on then the flexplate then the thin washer/spacer.
