Default 22R in an RA23? Been done? Good idea? Easy?

Has anyone seen a 22r in an RA23 before? Im thinking of doing it as i can get one real cheap and im having issues finding bell housing etc for 18rc and i have a 5 speed box, clutch and flywheel that would all bolt up. Its a cross flow motor and a bit bigger and torquier, easier to get extractors for etc etc as ill be doing an exhaust up for it. I dont even know whether this would be worth doing though as they are a truck motor after all. Might just be better off to persevere with 18r. Some opinions would be good to help me make up my mind. Informed opinions too please dont just say do it cos its bigger. 18r may be a better motor for the car been smaller and revvier etc, the 22r may not fit been too tall or sump config no goodor the fact that its cross flow obstructing something! Will an 18r sump bolt to 22r? Any advice would be really appreciated thanks guys.

It was a factory option for celica's in the early eighties but not the Ra23/28/40's. I think there was a 28 for sale in brisbane with a 22R about six months ago so it's doable but if you can get another 18rg wouldn't that be preferable?

I'd probably go the 22R over the 18rc.

I don't think any of the ancillaries or the sump is exchangable between the 18-22.

Yep 18RG would be ideal, trouble is i dont want to spend any money and for a reasonable 18rg with the twin carbs etc looking at about a grand and i dont want to be spending that sort of money at the moment. The more i think about it the more chucking the 18r back in makes sense. Give it a rebuild, give the intake runners a bit of a tidy up with the die grinder, set of extractors full 2" exhaust with a reasonable filter element and its gonna be enough for a sweet little daily. They are a sports car after all so should go alright with a tidied up factory motor and 5 speed.
