    fast
    cheep
    reliable

    pick two

    1uz all the way
    $1500 motor and box
    $1000 for the exhaust
$1000 for the wiring (if you pay someone)
    $750 for radiator and hoses
    $1000 for other cr@p

enjoyment at the end - priceless

should get it ready to be on the road

Personally i think it comes down to do you like or need the sound of a V8 or do you want power from a Turbo 6 ..

The 1UZ option is probably a bit cheaper, but i would go 1JZ myself ..

    id go with the 1JZ
also do u want a auto or manual?

u can get JZ's dirt cheap somedays and ones with single turbo setups for the price of a 1UZ

$1000 for a zorst is pricey, unless its stainless?

i think killerkustom (i think thats the name) looms sell 1JZ wiring kits for $700?

a good rad u can get way cheaper than $700 odd surely.

and a 1JZ is so easy to make power from and there is parts every were

JZ would be heavry though, and not sound like a V8

im unsure wich motor would go in easyer, be heaps of room with a JZ 6 on the sides

im sure there is butt loads of info on a MX83 1jz swap

yeah you can get it cheaper but allow plenty more than required

Everyone does 1JZ X8s, be baller and do a 2JZ. As has been said, comes down to what you actually want, money isn't the big issue between choosing either a UZ or JZ, it's your preferences.

It's the basic concept of what you prefer, if you have no preference then why not try something different? First LS1 powered X83 in Australia? Pricing depends on how lucky you are, you could know where to find a $1000 1UZ complete with ECU, gearbox and loom with the bonus of having a rear-ended SC400 attached to it (like I do). So after parting it out would theoretically be maybe a $500 1UZ with ECU, gearbox and loom. Or you could have a mate with a mate of a mate with 4 1JZs sitting in his shed and he'd trade one for a few cases of beer.

The UZ would require more time and effort, whereas the JZ has been done so many times already it's relatively straightforward and not a lot, if anything needs to be custom-made - it's just a matter of finding the parts needed. UZs need work done to the headers to fit around the steering on top of getting the rest of the exhaust made up.

1JZ would be easiest and cheapest. Which is why it's the most common.
1UZ would be more difficult and slightly more expensive. Which is why it's less common.
2JZ would be expensive - highly satisfying expensive sex. Which is why it's the rarest swap and (IMO) the best.
LS1 would be a bit of everything but also different and just as satisfying as the 2JZ. This would have to be the hardest to undertake, I've only seen one LS1 powered X83 in the world - Daft Innovations Ls1 Cressida - YouTube

    Build thread for LS1 X83 is here: Daft's 90 mx83 LS1 Build - JZXProject

Do what feels right for you man, with any choice you're looking at unforeseen costs, annoyances, frustration and a huge dent in your finance but all of the above choices would be priceless once completed. Happiness > costs.

But to give a simple answer - 1JZ is the most cost effective and because it's been done so many times already, the easiest. If you have no problem being like hundreds of other X8 owners, it's the logical choice IMHO. But also the most boring.

thankyou for all the feedback, i decided to go with a 1uz $1800 with engine and automatic gearbox ecu and harness included
i know i will need custom engine mounts, exhaust manifold and a new thermo fan setup as my one has seen its days, anything else im missing?
i know their are heaps of 1uz threads if anyone could please link me to a 1uz mx83 build guide(such as parts needed) it would be so much help i cant seem to find anything right!
    cheers.

    hahahah

i know someone that can sell you a very neat 1uz cressida, that is engineered, shift kitted etc for less than i reckon it will cost you to do it.....
Dad has one of each - 2jz manual cressy and 1uz auto cressy - and he is only going to be allowed to keep one long term...

You need to jump onto ToyotaCressida.net if you haven't already. I'm not sure how much UZ info is there or would still work (dead picture links etc from 5 year old threads) but it's one of your best bets. I know there is at least one 1UZ build going on there that is active at the moment. There are also a few members with UZX83s already completed that you could chase up for information, Cuzzo on here also has a UZX83. JZXproject.com would be another place to check, although don't expect an amazing forum full of polite, mature and helpful people. I find it's best to browse it, read the good stuff and not have to get caught up in the childish bullshit they think is so cool.

Here is a 1UZ thread from JZXP, having a lack of immediate access to any Chevrolet parts used in this conversion could be misleading though.

So are you doing this swap in the champagne Grande you have listed in the classifieds at the moment?

If your serious, I am possibly lookng at selling my 1UZ cressida, mainly due to a change in career (being posted for 8 months overseas, I really cant see my wife would want to take the gansta mobile to the shops..)
Im the 2nd owner, it has had over $10,000 spent on it in the last 5 years.
Ticks away without any dramas, has bulk power & torque is so good. Looks like a factory issued engine bay.
All engineered, regoed, recently re-did some electrics, new pads, new waterpump and timing belt, new windscreen....
Gets 8lt/100km on long trips, does 400m in 14.5 sec

The good thing about the 1UZ is once its finished, its finsihed, no more intercooler pipes, or dump upgrades, or ecu tweaks, its a finished car ready for enjoyment.

PM me if you like, Im probably going to advertise it this Saturday, give it a good bath etc....
Prob would take less than $4000 incl rego till March
