Default 2ZZGE 05 Sportivo head gasket replacement

A week ago, I had the rego on my car done at my local Ultratune. They mention that the head gasket looks to be on the way out (oil leaking was the indicator). The guy at Ultratune said that without actually taking the head off, it would be difficult to tell if the head gasket had another month or year left in it.

So I talk to the guy at Toyota today & mention the above. The guy says that it would cost approx $2500 & that he would need the car for a week!!!!

I call BS on time & cost, but am keen to hear from others on here from their experiences

Also what is the risk if I don't replace it now & keep driving it (nanny style )

    Cheers
    Tim

It wont be the head gasket leaking , it will be where the timing cover joins the head/block.
Take it to a mechanic who knows what they are doing, maybe wash it down really good yourself and then see where it is coming from.

I took the car to toyota for that exact reason. I didn't think that it would cost that much & require the car for a week though...

You've got it backwards, it's the needed replacement that's BS, not time&$$!!!!
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!

ive had a 4ag leaking oil out of the headgasket but 2jz is right there'll be a leak from another gasket its pretty unlikely that its a head gasket. the 2zz timing chain cover has a few bits and pieces of gasket around there and would be my first suspect.

    Hehe, you nailed it Allen.

I got the car back from Toyota yesterday & they said no fault / leak found.

    Cheers
