cam cover gasket looks like 11213-88580 they used to cost 850yen + 5% tax
Hi,
I have a 97 215 Caldina with the gen4 3SGTE.
Can someone please help me with the following:
-What are the part numbers for the rocker cover gasket, or is there a commonly available replacement?
Mine's leaking pretty bad and I'd rather not have to order one from Japan if a replacement can be had locally.
-Is the plug on the knock sensor from the 205 Celica ( or another model) compatible with the plug on the Caldina?
Thanks

you won't find another cam cover gasket from a local delivered car. you'll also need the inner gasket which seals round the inner 2 spark plug wells. 11214‑88580
should cost less than $100 for both anyway. you may find amamaya/bazda to get better prices and faster service than 4 week ex-jap service from your local toyota dealer
Just go to your local Toyota quote the number and they will get what you need
Thanks guys,
Have confirmed those part numbers on ToyoDIY.com
and sent a query to amayama. At worst I'll just have to order from Toyota.
Was hoping there would be locally available parts (to save delivery time) since the 3S engine was used in the locally delivered MR2 and GT4.
Any suggestions on whether the knock sensor from the Celica GT4 would fit the Caldina plug?
My mechanic and I are trying to hunt down why the Caldy's detonating, and we're going to eliminate the simple things first.
( using 98 premium, have tried octane booster --> no improvement)

not seen a caldina knock sensor, but if it was blown then your car would be running in limp mode with CEL.
checked timing? dunno if/how adjust on caldina due to no dizzy etc or what could make it be off?
Timing is out by 5 degrees (advanced) but the detonation is intermittent, more prevalent when the engine gets rather hot.
My mechanic's wondering if the knock sensor has an intermittent fault that could be sending false signals back to the ECU.
Since all timing is controlled by the ECU, if it gets false/inaccurate signals that will affect the timing.
(had timing belt service @ 100K, same problem before and after)
Since my mech has a spare st205 knock sensor I want to see if it's a direct swap with the Caldy's, but it's a PIA to get to especially if we then find out the 205 spare doesn't fit.
hmmm.....yeh i'd say the obvious that the belt may have been installed wrong but i'm sure that already checked and from memory 1 tooth out would mean more than 5deg out, i think 7deg from vague memory. (going by some used to do cheap skate retarding of exh cam on the gen2 by putting tooth out to bring it closer to gen3 spec.)
wonder if it could be to do with either the cam or crank angle sensor. yes det will happen more when things get hot esp if timing related sounds logical.
not that hard to get to knock sensor i dont think really. best just have it on hoist, pull plug off first and check if its the same
Road & Track have gaskets in stock in australia. email is [email protected]
Import Factory in Melbourne replaced my rocker cover gasket during compliance of my ST215 last week - they had one in stock and cost was ~$60. Might be worth asking them...
Thanks for the tips, parts are on order from Amayama.
At worst the ECU may be faulty, then either replace or replace with aftermarket unit.
Does anyone know which aftermarket ECUs work well with the Caldina?
